Foul is a popular breakfast food in some ME countries, including Egypt. Can't say I'm a big fan, but my husband is. In Cairo, you could buy it prepared from street venders in little plastic baggies. Here it comes in cans.

Ack...fuul in Egypt kinda sux. It's somewhat similar to refried beans only without the cheese and it doesn't taste as good. It's eaten pretty much daily for breakfast.

It does sound good though. I make a bean dip with white kidney beans, olive oil, garlic, parsley, lemon juice and salt and pepper and I usually snack on that with celery at night. Never thought of eating it for breakfast though. Beans do have protein so maybe it carries you through the day better than a donut would.

I prefer the Yemeni way of preparing fuul. It's fava beans, onions, garlic, tomatoes, tomato paste, jalapeno pepper (or any other kind of hot pepper), cumin, salt and pepper. It's cooked then mashed and served with olive oil on top. Now that's good!

Ahhhhhhhhhh he wants me to make it on Wednesday!!!!! So ya'll have to wait one more day for my kanafa pics. Mohammed's 2 cousins and a few friends are coming over tommorrow and he wants me to serve it hot. I even got the little nuts to put on it

Yes there are different variations of it. The orange-red one is just food coloring, it doesnt change the taste. I personally don't like it (psycological) if it's not the red-orange color. Not sure why...lol
