I'd like to fly back home (to Perth, from Boston or New York) for Christmas, 2007... but the cheapest tickets I can find online are like $1800 each. Does anyone know where to look to find cheaper tickets? I'm looking at Expedia, and Emirates directly...

cheap tickets, hotwire.

It would be nice to have a Travel section somewhere pinned for the various regions. I've spent a small fortune this year on flights to Philippines.

For those needing to connect to other parts of Phils, Cebu Pacific is a great airline, no first class, kind of like SouthWest Airlines, I catch a roundtrip from Manila to Cebu for about $35 dollars each time. The expensive part of getting to Manila. http://www.cebupacificair.com/

Dallas DFW to Manila

1st flight - www.bt-travel.com - Cathy Pacific - $1,200 April 06
2nd flight - local travel agency - Cathy Pacific - $1,400 June 06
3rd flight - priceline.com - Philippines Air - $1,400 Sept 06

Future Flight - Christmas 2007 - prices right now averaging $1,800 - although Southwest has caused an airwar to breakout now and AA is matching pricing for $200 for west coast flights so I am pricing westcoast flights to Manila now.

First of all cheap tickets and Christmas are typically an oxymoron. You are trying to travel during a very busy time and the airlines just charge more because they can.

If yu have flexible travel dates try tweaking your dates around and see if it makes a difference\

Try sidestep.com or kayak.com. These are meta search engines that look at more than one website on each search.

yesh. Christmas time the deals are going to be thin on the ground. Sidekick tends to find the lowest publish fares, but occasionally I've had a fare-watcher set at Travelocity send me notice of flights for less.

1. You're looking WAY too far in advance - you have to wait. I bought mine a month ago, and they're already 400$ cheaper now.

2. Air New Zealand, I have found, ALWAYS have the best rates..

So I'd say wait a while....you're WAY too early.

Try kayak.com. It searches all the airlines and all the ticket broker sites at once.

I second Kath with Qantas. Just keep checking their website regularly, as they have good specials that come up on and off if you book with them directly. Christmas is a pretty hard time to get cheap fares, though.

Thanks for all the replies, folks. I will check out all the sites mentioned, hopefully I can find a good deal! Airline pricing seems to be black magic, I for one have never understood it (and I like to think I'm a reasonably smart guy tongue.gif)

I'd like to avoid going Qantas if possible. For one, I hate their service; and secondly I think that they only fly from the West coast of the U.S. to the East coast of Australia... so I'd have to go Boston/LA/Sydney/Perth! Which I'd rather like to avoid.

I understand that Christmas is of course the busiest time, which is why I'm looking more than a year in advance!
