My first question is : WHEN IS EID IN THE UNITED STATES ?!?

I don't want to know when it is in Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Saudia Arabia ..... just the U.S.
We have not heard anything. Please tell me it's on Sunday because it's going to a problem if it's on Monday. I have a project at work and my second interview for a new job I'm applying for. I could miss work but not the interview.

BTW I got Eid Clothes !! I looked all over the internet to see if I could find a picture and I couldn't
It's a beige and brown knee length maternity dress (fits perfect) with brown pants underneath. Ali will also be wearing beige and brown

I could not believe that some of you said you spend Eid alone .... that makes me sooo sad. Eid is a HUGE thing in my family (we are arab though). We have our yearly traditions :

First we get up at athan and take showers and put on our brand new clothes (yes, brand new this is customery in Lebanon. Even if you can't afford you save and get it, because you fasted all month you deserve new clothes).

Then we argue because I take too long getting ready and I can't find anything I'll miss my family this year.

Then we go the masjid and get the masjid ready (my parents are board members) and say "allahou akbar, allahoy akbar, laillaha illallah" etc. till it's time for prayer.

We then pray in an overly crowded masjid.

Then we hang out at the masjid with our friends and family and take pictures.

Then we eat breakfast.

At around noon we leave the masjid to the cemetary to vist my Grandpa and Uncle who have died. Alla Yerhamoon.

Then we drive to the city and see my aunts. We usually stay there till like 4 or 5.

On the way home we stop and eat the Hawaiian BBQ restraunt (every year same restraunt)

Then my parents go to sleep and me and my brothers go out with our friends for the rest of the night. Because we got a ton of money from Eid.


This year Ali and I will start our own traditions of course, but we will be with my family

I love Eid and I hope you all get to have a wonderful Eid and not have to spend it alone

Hehe, when is eid in the US? That's like asking when Ramadan begins...everyone has 3 opinions

If you started fasting on Saturday, then I think Saturday, the 21st is the 29th day of Ramadan and Sunday, the 22nd, would either be the 30th of Ramadan or the 1st of Shawwal.

If you started fasting on Sunday, then Sunday the 22nd, is the 29th of Ramadan and Monday the 23rd, is either the 30th of Ramadan or the 1st of Shawwal.

The fiqh counsel of NA is saying Eid is on Monday, meaning Ramadan would have 30 days this year.

I've already told work that I will need off either Monday or Tuesday, and while they're slightly confused, they're ok with it. Alhamdulilah for the nice people at my job.

I sympathize with the lonley eid/ramadan crowd. I spent many of those. When I did go to the prayer, I usually had class after it, and didn't get to attend any parties.

Now when my husband arrived, I was like Finally, we can establish some traditions. Unfortunately, husband also was not used to celebrating big time, so it's taken some coaxing, but this year, inshaAllah, we've got some stuff planned.

Get up, take a shower and eat a little something. I'm thinking cinamon rolls for me, foul for my husband.

Go to the masjid for Eid prayers. Make sure we arrive early, cuz everyone and their mamma is there. If you don't want to be out in the hall, must get there early.

On the way to the masjid, make various dhikr and the eid takbeer. I'm hoping that once Ramadan moves up a bit more, we can walk to the masjid. That depends on if we move, I suppose though. Right now, we're about 2 miles away. It's sunnah to walk to eid prayers.

Once at the masjid, join in the takbeer. This is actually my favorite part of the day. Some people get really into it, and you can feel the energy building.

Pray the prayer, listen to the khutbah.

Now, here's where we're going to try to build a tradition. inshaAllah we're going to the amusement park in the mall of america. Since we'll most likely celebrate eid on Monday or Tuesday, hopefully there won't be a ton of people there, and we can ride all the rides a bunch

Well at least its not as dysfunctional as our family holidays. I usually get badgered by every aunt about having kids, getting married, and anything thing else that comes to their mind. Then when its time to clean up (usually alot) my aunts walk in when I'm doing the last dish and say "do you need help habibty?" Someone usually gets into a fight. My nephew counts how many gifts everyone else got and compares it to what he got and if someone got more than him, then I don't hear the end of it. Everyone talks so loud and at the same time that you can't even decide which conversation to join. Anyone wanna come to my house for Christmas dinner?

All of the places around here are having their Eid celebrations on Monday so I figured that was it. I'm kinda hoping aunt flo gives me a lil visit on Sun morning though 'cause i miss my turkey bacon and eggs and coffee for breakfast.

What brand of turkey bacon do you eat? I can't find anything without pork in it.

I think the brand is called Whole Ranch, which is a private brand only sold at Whole Foods stores, but I'll double check when I get home. I like the kind that has the black pepper on the edges.

Ok I was wrong. The brand is Wellshire and it's called "All Natural Uncured Turkey Peppered Bacon". The ingredients are : turkey, water, raw sugar, sea salt, paprika, beet powder, onion & spices.

I have only been able to find it in Whole Foods so I assumed it was their name brand but if you can find a store that sells Wellshire products then maybe you'll find their turkey bacon there too. Many of our other stores sell other types of turkey bacon but so far this is the only one that tastes good enough to me. Good luck!

Well I too can sympathize with people spending Eid alone ... this year I am here in Algerie which I guess is good... amoung the swurm of people. Tomorrow which I am not looking forward to am to make sweets by the cousin of my husband...Yea! Our oven sucks and plus I have no euipment so I get go there and spent the whole with 20 or more women I donnot know making sweets I donnot like and be awya from my husband on his only day off this week. Yea! Inchallah I am trying to look at the bright side of this... but I have really no mood to do that all.

Eid, whenever it is inchallah... will wake for the Eid prayer, hear the khutbah inchallah, then go home to eat breakfast...then I will be in my home alone yet again, greeting guests and entertaining for 2 days...while my husband does his little tour of the homes of his relatives...so the half of the women and all the men move around to each house in like a circle eating sweets, talking, etc...while the other half of the women do the entertaining for these guests. I am feeling nuts already. Wow I spent a whole 2 weeks with my husband in these 2months.

Hello ladies.
This is my first Eid so I guess I'm not familiar with what a big deal it is and why everyone seems so sad that some of us will spend it alone.
I have no new clothes, and I'm working that day. I suppose I'll just be happy that I made it through my first Ramadan!!
I am looking forward to next year though when I am hoping to spend Ramadan and Eid with my future husband and in-laws in Egypt insha'Allah.

Well imagine (if you celebrated Christmas before) that you spent Christmas alone and had to work that day! Would be kinda depressing... but I guess the ones who do spent it alone get great ajr for it and are really strong women anyway...

Myself I wished my first Eid with my husband would have been us but it seems like it won't be.

Ah, I guess I would have been sad to be alone and working at Christmas.
It seems I'll have many nice Eid celebrations to look forward to in the future though insha'Allah.

Sorry you won't be able to spend yours with just your husband. Sounds like you'll have so much work to do!

I am glad to be spending this Eid with my husband instead of on the web cam, also very happy that he doesn't have to work his butt off this ramadan also. He was a clothing store manager and during ramadan he worked almost all day and all night. So this Eid will be special for him and me
