1- Every state has different rules about getting married. Your fiancee will know the rules of that state.

2- After you arrive in the US- about 2 weeks- go tot he Social Security office nearest your new home and apply.

3- when you fly into JFK at immigration you can ask them for the temproary EAD to allow you to work.

I will try to answer this

1 - This depends on what state your fiance lives in. If you tell us, we can look it up.

2 - You go to the SS office. You can download an application online here (PDF file). Most people recommend waiting two weeks after you arrive before going, but others have been successful going sooner.

3 - Yes, a K1 can get an work authorization at JFK.

I don't fully understand your last question about stages. You will go through immigration. You will show your visa to the immigration officer. They will mark that you have entered. They will take your brown envelope. They may or may not ask you questions. They will put an I-94 (and work authorization) in your passport. Then, you walk out and greet your fiance.

Bosco & Mybackpages:
The two of you are very patient, helpful, intelligent people. I was TOTALLY unable to comprehend the post due tot he obvious language barrier, grew very impatient and clicked off without replying. Your replies taught me that I need to try to be more understanding and patient next time I face a situation like that.

You really set a good example for humandkind today. I was really impressed. yes.gif

You will like Pennsylvania I think. My son attends the University there. Good luck!

Hello and congratulations on your K-1 visa. You should have six months to use the visa for one entry into the US. It has been since 6/05 that my fiance traveled from Casa to JFK. He didn't have any problems with immigration there, he said they were quite nice. It took him about two hours to land and process through. He did receive the temporary EAD (work authorization). We live in Ohio and we went to the Social Security office 3 days after his arrival and he received his card in just over two weeks. If your fiance has any questions about getting married, she could contact the courthouse where she lives and find out what is required for the marriage license. For us, he just had to have his valid passport. If you need any further assistance or help, I can try to help or my husband could perhaps answer any questions you might have. Just take things one step at a time and you'll get through the adjustments.

Good Luck
