Help! My brother in law just scanned in the packet 3 for us and we were able by God's Grace to get all of my husbands police certificates..and a certified copy of his birth certificate from ..however on the certified copy of the birth certificate, it does not have an area that states the information required from his parents which are: date and place of his parents birth?

For those who are filing with Ghana, has this been a problem for you in the past about birth certificates?

Please advise..I am stressing out and want to get these forms right before we submit our packet 3 and dont want to delay this process even further...

Thanks so much for all your help!!!

I don't remember if Re's birth certificate has that info on it or not, but are you still waiting for your interview date? Even if your birth cert needs to be altered, you should have plenty time to do that after you have turned that first form in to get your interview date. Perhaps K3 is different, I don't know.

Re's birth certificate needed to be what Ghana calls an International Birth Certificate. It was big, pink, and lamenated. Is that what his looks like?

My husbands is not big and pink but its white and its called a certified copy of birth registrar...Thanks for ur response, Kanyiri... we will probably just turn in what we have and see if we can get an international birth certificate.. We are just about finished putting together all our documents turn in for the packet 3 and then we will be able to get an interview date.

Hi: you don't have to actually show the packet 3 stuff to the consulate before getting your interview date. So don't worry about this for now and just have your brother in law go to the consulate on Wednesday morning at 7:15 (if he can) to turn in the signed checklist and the DS-230 part I form to get an interview date. You can then spend the next 6 months (unless you are luckier than we were, ugh...) figuring out the birth certificate.

I sent an email to the US citizen services consular associate asking about birth certificates. The one O has is pink with the registrar's silver seal, called "Certified Copy of Entry In Register of Births." It does have his parents' name, but not their dates of birth. So far no response but I will get this answered somehow because it's the only thing I'm not sure about as far as the paperwork goes.

Another thing for packet 4 (what he brings on interview day): be sure to have 3 U.S. size passport photos (the 2x2 inch). In one place it says to bring 2 and another it says to bring 3.

If I notice any other tricky things (I'm sure there are: this consulate is so disorganized they gave us expired DS-156 forms to use, look at the top to see what they give you and you can get the new ones online at the USCIS site) I'll post!

Good luck!

OK, more info on birth certificates.

First, here's a web page with detailed info from the U.S. State Dept. (scroll down the page for birth cert info):
http://travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/C...der/G/Ghana.htm

Next, I did get an email back from the consular associate in U.S. citizen services about the birth certificate:

> What he has is a "Certified Copy of Entry In
> Register of Births." It's pink with a silver stamp of the registrar.

The Pink with the silver seal is perfect. Please make sure the birth certificate and
his passport are the same. Sometimes they are not and that can cause a
delay as well.

(I assume she's talking about the name order and spelling between the passport and birth certificate there in the last lines.)

And haven't tried it yet but the Ghana Registrar General of Births and Deaths (Ministry of the Local Government) in Accra is (21) 664691.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for all your help a&o, my husband was flipping out when I noticed this in the birth certificate because of all the stress he had to go through to obtain that as well as the birth certificate!

Now I just need to find out if the packet 3 for k3 applicants need to turn in evidence of relationship prior to the interview or at the time of the interview...I am almost sure that all this evidence our relationship will be needed at the time of his interview but i am calling to find out tomorrow..Hope the ghana embassy tell me something useful!

You actually have the authentic government document. The embassy, as a matter of facf, prefers this one with the shiny government crest on it. You got the right document so keep cool. No sweat and no stress!

KingMedusa: which one is the right one to have, then? The pink one with the shiny silver seal or the white one with a government crest? The woman at the US Citizen Services told me in email that the pink one with the silver seal is "perfect."

Thanks!
AubreyJ
Yeah, we had to get the big pink one with the shiny seal too
