The K3 would mean you would still have to do AOS once you were in the states...... the IR1 would be better to get as you would enter as a Greencard holder and would not have to do AOS once in the States....

I thought that once the IR-1 was scheduled for an interview, it would override the K-3 interview?
Since they are so close together, and if you have the option (it sounds like you do), going to the IR-1 interview would be the wisest choice. Getting an Immigration Visa with the IR-1 offers you work authorization and your green card, while the K-3 (non-immigrant visa) has many restrictions.
If I were in your position, I would certainly hold out for the IR-1 interview. You'll be much better off!!

Contact the embassy and point out the 2 dates and if you plan on the CR-1.

AOS can take months to up to a yearor more. Much better to do the CR-1/IR-1.

IR1 is definitely superior - also you would have to pay to apply for AOS, while you have already paid for the IR1. I would absolutely contact the embassy and let them know you only want to interview for the IR1.

I agree go for the IR1 it is much better and you will be able to work and travel without any problems or worries of AOS for work stateside. And AOSing on the K3 means more money and you will not be able to drive or work for several months.
Contact the embassy and tell them you wish to go for the IR1. Good luck.

If it was me I'd ask whether you can do the interview for the CR-1 on the date scheduled for the K3. It can't hurt to ask.

If you get approved at your CR1 you will get your visa in a few days.... as the interview dates are so close you are only talking about 2 weeks at most....
You would be mad to do K3 when you have a date for your CR1.....

You would have green card 4-6 weeks after arriving in USA on IR-1 If do AOS it can take a year or more on K-3.
What is a couple of more weeks in November when you have waited this long for the visa?

The VJ ers have advised, wait the 2 extra weeks and do the CR-1/IR-1, but it is ultimately up to you if you want to spend all the extra money and time doing the AOS.

You should be eligible for either, or you should not be going.

You've already paid for most of the IV process. If you take the K-3 and then file AOS, you have thrown about $500 down the pan.
I vote hang in there for 2 weeks, get packing and take the immigrant visa appointment.
If you go to the K-3 'just for fun', it costs the amount of the visa fee and your day's expenses. $100+

Do you actually have to tell the visa which interview you are going to? What happens if you just don't show to the K3? Is your IR1 interview still good to go? They don't just treat not showing to the K3 as an abandonment by the beneficiary on all cases? Just curious.

I would call and ask if you need to drop one of the interview dates or if you can just leave them both open. If you need to make a choice - it is very simple choose IR-1 as everyone has pointed out once approved for IR-1 you become a green card holder whereas if you are approved for K-3 status you would have to apply for Adjustment of Status (AOS) once you have arrived in the US, pay more money, file more forms, wait, wait and wait. If you want to work you have to file another form EAD and wait, wait, wait. With IR-1 you have the green card - no more forms, no more money and the only difference is the two weeks between the interview dates.
