Do you think that traveling to Peru on a one-way ticket will cause me any problems when I am going through customs there??

I'm praying that my husband and I will be able to fly back together, but we are keeping our schedule somewhat flexible, so we don't have an exact return date planned.

Just curious if I should expect any problems..... unsure.gif

No,

I have traveled out of country several times and the customs officer never asked to see the ticket, and also the air line printed and gave me only the out bound tickets, and only when returning home did I get the return tickets.

You should have no problems.

Excellent point, YuAndDan. I've traveled enough that I should have realized that. Just getting a little frantic, that's all blush.gif

I agree... while no specific experience in Peru, I have flown international many times and have never been asked to see my return ticket. I remember my first trip to Argentina and I was asked many questions about my purpose. All subsequent visits (6) I have had absolutely no questions asked period. I wonder sometimes if it is coincidence or because I am in the database and I did not in fact overstay previous visits....

Hi TracyLuis,
I used to visit my boyfriend (now husband smile.gif in Lima when I lived in Colombia. I once had hassles with the airline (Copa) once because I had purchased a one-way ticket from Bogota to Lima. The airline said that unless I had a resident or other type of visa that I should have a ticket out of Peru. I finally told them I was going to buy one when I got there and they let me go. Be prepared for this and to show you have the means (eg credit card) to purchase a ticket to leave Peru. There should be no problem but be prepared to have them ask you if you are "a resident of Peru" and be able to explain your travel plans. The Peruvian immigration authorities have never asked me to show proof of return ticket though wink.gif

TracyLuis
Thanks, ardilla! I will certainly be prepared... yes.gif

I know that by now you have already flown to Peru. But I will make a suggestion for others anyway:

Buy a Round Trip ticket and not one-way as round trip tickets are cheaper--you can change your return trip with the airline once you are in Lima. I did this even at the last minute--as I was boarding the plane I told them I wanted to change my flight--they let me change with a little hassle--extra paperwork and ensure none of my bags were on the plane (US Law FAA prohibits unaccompanied bags). Also the immigration people in Peru coming and going have almost always asked to see my boarding pass, but not my tickets. Now you do need to give them an Idea of when you will be returning back to the USA--I believe 90 days is the maximum you can stay on a tourist visa in Peru, but you might want to double check that. Anyway tell them how many days you will stay as you do not want to have an overstay--there will be a fine imposed if you do overstay your visa. The only other hassle you will have is at the airport in Lima--airport security when you are returning to the USA will ask you for your ticket--if you do not have one simply tell them you have an electronic ticket and they will just look at your passport and let you go.
