Hi,

Well, after getting lucky with quick USCIS & NVC processing, we had a big slow down today. We went for the packet 4 and interview date today. O has an interview date of April 5, 2007! That's almost six months from now.

Anyway, we have a simple case (no children, dependents, convictions, and meet all requirements). I know this whole process calls for patience and I know people out there have been waiting a lot longer than us, but I'm in Ghana now (I am the USC) and have to leave in December. I've been here for a year and a half. I was hoping (probably against the odds) of getting an interview around three months or less from now so that we could pack up and go together. Not six months, geez!

Has anyone been able to change the date of the interview? If so, how?

Kanyiri filled me in on her experience.

Anyone else?

THANKS!

We tried to get our date moved up at the Accra Embassy and were told it's impossible. I guess if you are able to find someone to grease the palm, then you might get lucky.

Yes, I went to the consulate today and just tried to speak to a consulate officer and was shown the door. I was polite and calm, but it didn't help. They acted like I was trying to do something wrong. I brought the request in letter form in case I couldn't speak with anyone and they wouldn't even take it. I just feel defeated. I don't even think I can get to a palm to grease it!

I guess I need to be 100% sure everything is in order and correct so that when he does get the interview there's nothing they can use to temporarily deny him and put us back another six months. I asked if I could meet with a consular officer to make sure our documents are correct and that was also met with a flat out no. I guess the medicals are also unpredictable, so....

Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Despite someone's comments earlier, I was successful last summer in getting a date change (see my timeline).. But maybe I just caught the right person on the right day. There is utterly no consistency in Accra with these things..I tried to be polite with the security but I did end up "going American" on them when they tried to tell me I could go to consular affairs. I simply ignored them, kept walking forward and saying, This is my Embassy, Im an American citizen.....

If you got through security and ended up at the Ghanaian administrative woman (the one who collects all the documents)...whew...forget it. She's impossible and obtuse as ever.....
