Dear all,

Yesterday I had my interview at the embassy and everything went well. (smile.gif))) I got my passport back with the big stamp in it. They told me that I should receive the actual GreenCard within the next 6 weeks.

I found a job and I am supposed to start on Nov 1. Assuming that I will not have received the actual GreenCard nor my Social Security # by Nov 1, can I still start working? What should I tell my employer?

Thank you and all the best,

Michigan

The stamp on your passport is a proof of your permanent residency. I am not sure, if you can start working without a valid social security number. Usually the green card and the social security card arrives within 3 weeks. You can tell your employer that you can start working as soon as you receive your social security card.

Michigan,

You should be able to if you can show that you've applied for your SS card. Maybe submit a form SS-5 to the SSA even if you did correctly check the appropriate boxes of DS-230-II Q33.
