DOES ANYONE EVER FEEL THAT MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST MOVE TO SOME OF THESE EXOTIC LOCATIONS AND FORGET THE USA. AFTER ALL THE TIME AND PAPERS AND THE POSSIBLE NO AND MONEY MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST PACK IT UP MOVE TO OUR SPOUSES COUNTRY AND LIVE A MORE SIMPLE FULFILLING LIFE. MAYBE I AM JUST HAVING A BAD DAY THOUGH? ANY THOUGHTS.

I tried it and UK was just as bad. Only there, your neighbors were toooooo close!

If it were financially feasible, I would live in Lima with my husband in a heartbeat. And that would be his dream come true!!

I'm hoping that someday, we will be able to live there for a few years with our children.

I know the feeling, the thought has definately crossed my mind. But I know in Mexico, it's difficult to find a job, and if you do find a job, it may pay fairly low. Try making about 12 dollars a day for 8 or 9 hours of work.

But I have thought about it, like all of you guys have. I know that if my k1 petition or my fiance's interview is denied, I would definately go down to Mexico and live with him (and then marry and file for a k3 visa).

My husband and I had discussed it and I would go wherever he was but the thought of living in a country where I would be couped up in the house and have to be covered up when going out and not having many rights scared the bejeezus out of me! Basically there wouldn't have been a job for me other then staying home. I like having my rights and I am glad he is here with me now.

Secondly, we're hoping to one day be able to afford a small home in England. But perma-moving there is not an option.

Ditto here as well.... but then we might live there a few years and after the novelty wears off we might get "happy feet" and want to go somewhere else.....

I am sooooo ready to go to the US! but my husband has been living here in the UK for 5 years now and is getting way to comfortable dry.gif he is just not ready to move his a$$ back home laughing.gif

So why don't people move to their partners countries???
CarolineM
I've stated my reasons before - not to be redundant but we both have good jobs here, we own a condo, and my parents are much older than his and I feel bad leaving them....

we will definitely move there one day.
rkl57
I lived there -- it had its pluses and minuses
Now we live here in the US -- it too has its pluses and minuses

One of the big minuses here so far has been the immigration process -- the cost, the period without working, the terminable wait, the paperwork, the time apart, the days taken off work to go to interviews and infopass appointments.

I often wonder if I had a crystal ball when I was making the decision to come back to the US if I would have made the same decision

I would love to live in the UK, but the cost of housing and the relatively restricted job market made it an easy choice for us not to. When my husband first saw what sort of home he could buy here at half the cost of a comparable property in Wiltshire, his jaw literally dropped wide open. His favorite souvenir from his first trip to the US was a local real estate magazine (and I've always thought Asheville is expensive!). It still gets ooohs and ahhhs from friends and family, more than two years later!

good.gif We are buying a house here...my husband looked at me the other day and said "we are borrowing 200,000 pounds to buy a house.......and that is last time I am going to say that out loud" laughing.gif

I'm definitely having one of those weekends! My husband got laid off from his job on Friday and then yesterday, the cats mauled and destroyed my brand new shoes that had been worn only once! Right this second, I'm ready to jump ship and head back to the UK...minus the shoe-destroying feline companions of my husbands!!

Well, we are actually planning to make this move ,only two years from now, which will allow an opportunity for my fiance(e) to receive a green card in the U.S. so we will have the option of living in either country. With my retirement income and liquidating all my personal belongings and real estate we could live a very decent lifestyle with no mortgage. The country is beautiful and many areas are still unspoiled. Think of the Hawaiian landscape and you'll have a good snapshot of what the country looks like.

Me and my husband will definitely move to Germany in some years. Right now, the US is the better choice because of a) financial reasons and cool.gif the husband's German is still pretty much non-existent. We're working on the language (and on the finances as well) so that we'll be able to move there as soon as we get tired of the US.
Marc and Olga
No money to support us during my living there, IF my 401(k) was a tad more padded, I'd do it...in a heartbeat.

I certainly have considered retiring there as it is a much easier lifestyle in Russia AND it is much cheaper to live there!

I still cannot believe I paid about $12 for take out for the family and I to eat 1 night! ohmy.gif

Aw !! come on now Peter, those sugar cane fields, the banana trees, coffee plants, Andes mountain range, year round 80 degree temps at the higher elevations, the friendly people, slower pace of lifestyle and the cheap cost of living has got to be some attraction for you ? Ah !! but then there is that Miami night life.. OK I can understand. Myself I am retiring the beginning of next year so am looking to slow things down a bit.

I love this country, and some of the rights (or lack thereof) that we have. I dont think you can beat it all around, however retiring to another country with the option to return at anytime is definitely in my future! We plan to live a "double-life"....

my hubby keeps trying to tell me that Asheville is too expensive. Sure, a house there would cost more than here in Morganton where we seem to be picking them up for free! But compared to Toronto, Asheville is still cheap. And there's stuff to do there. Unlike Morganton. tongue.gif

I'm still trying to talk him into it tho!

On topic tho, we *were* going to live in Canada, but he was deemed inadmissable because of a juvenile record. So, here I am. We had even considered going to the UK for a while, when USCIS had lost our petitions. But, here I am.

Maybe some day.

If anything "would" have put me off - it would be the fundamentalists. I don't mean the religious type either - but the people who follow party politics like sheep, and defend it like wolves wink.gif

Still "those" people are a very small price to pay for being able to live with my wife.

I will be quite honest...I don't want to live in Nigeria. The economy is below standard & there aren't many opportunities to survive at the level that I am living here in the US. I also wouldn't uproot my daughter and force her into such foreign surrounds. Besides, I love America...just happen to be in love with a foreigner.
kirk and Jenny
This is my and Jenny's great debate. I want to go to the Philippines, she wants to come here for a while and return to the Philippines. Anyway, I do not want to live in this country. My view is that religion dominates. I view both parties as being controled by religious fundementalist. We know about the republicans. What about the democrats. "We are right, because we have absolute faith we are right, and we can get some expert to lie on a study to pretend there is a scientific base to our rancid thought." Same game different field. Religious fanatics control this country.

Our grand plan is to own a small home in both the US and Canada, so that we can spend time in both countries. smile.gif

Me and the wife have thought about it. I could definitely retire a lot earlier (at 55 years old) and we could live well enough on my savings / 401k in either Belarus (my wife's citizenship country) or in Russia (her birthplace country). It is really cheap to live in the villages or in a small town. We haven't looked into the proceedures for me to get residency in either country or the possibility for my wife to reclaim her Russian citizenship. I still have another 5 years before I can even think of retiring and for now it is just a brain fart.

I'm still VERY homesick and if we could we would move tomorrow...............fingers crossed for the lottery whistling.gif There's no place like Canada and it's wonderful that we both feel that way......{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Some of us do or are co-living (in 2 countries). The visa allows that.

I always wanted to live outside the US. I got my chance, took it. However, every country has its pros and cons. If it were a different stage in our lives, Germany would be pretty good. But at this point, the US has more to offer. Not that we are planning to stay there forever either. If all possible, we'll be immigrating further. It isn't that I hate the US or Germany, just I would like to keep moving and experience different places and things.
CarolineM
Reba - we LOVE Asheville. The Summer camps where we met were in Brevard...which is about 40 minutes outside of Asheville. Every night off we had, we would go to Asheville together. We have SO many memories there!!

We would move there in a heart beat if we could - but now Stew's in school here in FL (In state tuition) and I still have my awesome job...

but we also LOVE it!

I had considered, at one point moving to the Netherlands to be with my fiancee', but it simply isn't feasible. He's still getting his education and I wouldn't be able to find a job due to not speaking the language. Maybe in a touristy area or something, but I'm a programmer, so... it'd be really difficult. Here, I can continue with a job I have, stay in a house that has relatively low rent, and he can get through college and start getting a job here. And the job market, as cruddy as it is, is better here than there from what I've been told.

mrsushi66
If this much time were spent on trying to get involved and fixing problems rather than figuring out how to escape them maybe this place would not be so bad.

As the ole saying goes, your either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Paul misses Anna
CarolineM
Problems??
A.J.
Any problem you have in one part of the country will go away in another part of the country. In case you haven't realized it yet, this country is fukcing huge. Of course, in another part of the country or world, you will have other problems. Where will you escape to then? The way I see it, you gotta at some point choose your problems cuz no matter where you live, you're gonna have some.

The only reason I had once wished to move to India was because of missing Sujeet during our visa process. To be honest, I wouldn't want to live in India unless I absolutely had to. I wouldn't mind being able to spend part of each year in India, but I don't think I'd want to live there permanently. no0pb.gif If Sujeet was from a European country or from Canada, UK, or Australia I might be more willing to move. But we both like the US for certain reasons and are happy here.

well, the UK isn't what I'd call exotic...

but i am actually going to go live there with him for a year.

Then, we'll come back to the states for a while. I dont' know if it'll be our permanent home, but we'll be back here for a bit, and maybe make the rest of the world our playground.

If something happend to me, Val would move back to Brasil in a heartbeat. Heres why:

Beautiful white beaches, friendly people (yes, most Americans are not that friendly even though some would give their shirt off of their backs), family, delicious food, and lower priced living expenses.

. . . of course the flipside is high poverty rate= crime (USA too), high taxes and beauracracy, and high unemployment.

I would love to live in Brasil but I could not leave my daughters until they are old enough to make up their minds and to see if they wish to go move with us (we have JC). Perhaps another 4-5 years from now.
