Hi all, been reading lots on this site off and on for about a year. My GF of 3 1/2 years (we're talking about getting married) is a Colombian national with her Costa Rican residency living in C.R. and has a current B1/B2 VISA. I am a gringo living 7 month's in C.R. and the rest of the year in the states, usually from FL to MD.
I guess now is the time to start thinking ahead as to what is needed. Ideas on whether it would be best to marry in C.R. and apply for a K3 or to apply for a K1 and get married in the states? I guess with either of these choises her current VISA would be void and she wouldn't be allowed in the states untill all is approved? I will be leaving for C.R. the first of November for the winter and am wondering what would be the best way to make sure she can come back with me to MD next summer.
Looks like lots of paperwork and putting together all things that prove togetherness for the past few years. Any other ideas and pointers?

When I visited my fiance this past summer I brought a completed G-325A for her to sign and date, and also she did a letter of intent to marry since we are doing a K-1 visa. She gave me 2 passport photos. I then put the package together when I got back home.

I was maried and applied for K3 visa in Costa Rica. We both lived in CR during the process. I was in CR for about a year and my wife for 3 years. My wife is from Venezuela. The entire process to get her here took 6 months. Right now the k3 and the K1 visas seem to take about the same time. The K1 visa may be a little bit quicker. The CR embassy is great. I would defintely get married in Costa Rica and apply for the visa there, it will be much faster. I married my costa rican husband and applied for the visa in Costa Rica and the entire process took 2 months (we paid extra for an expediated marriage certificate). It was surprsingly very easy.
