Hi, I am in the process of getting our application complete and ready for the kingston consulate... if we get the cr1 visa do we have to apply for the EAD, after my husband gets in the states? or will his visa suffice?

No EAD required. CR-1 is an imigration visa and as such you will get a green card, and will be able to work.

QUOTE
• can work upon entry (no restrictions)

• This is an "immigrant" Visa and will as such allow the applicant to arrive in the US as a permanent resident.

• They will not require an Advanced Parole document to leave the US for travel or require an EAD to work.

The only other thing needed to get is a social security card.

If one checks the box on the DS-230, one is supposed to have the SSN mailed out automatically within approx 3-4 weeks. However in many cases, my own included, one has to go to their local SS Office and apply if it doesnt show up.
