Full Version: BRAZIL - Portuguese or English forms for Consulate?

I posted this in the "The Foreign Embassy and Consulate General Discussion" forum, but I did not get a "hit"!

I am completing the forms for "Packet 3" that Fernanda will need for the Consulate. Some of them I have found online in Portuguese & English. The others are only in English.

Questions:
1) Since Fernanda does not speak English, is it a problem at the Consulate if I complete only the English versions of the forms and send to her for her Interview?

2) Will the Consulate think that she has no idea what she's signing and deny her Visa?

3) Are the documents in Packet 3 that she will eventually receive from the Consulate in Brazil in both English and Portuguese?

- DS-230 Part 1 -- Biographical data sheet. (English)
- DS-156 -- Nonimmigrant visa application form (English & Portuguese)
- DS-156K -- Nonimmigrant fiance(e) visa application (English & Portuguese)
- DS-157 -- Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application (Only English)

Please advise.

I don't think it's a problem... Actually I don't think it does matter...

Good luck,

Advise only: as long as you type the information properly it doesn't matter if the forms are in portuguese or english.
Good luck!! good.gif

Carol&Marc and NessaandCharles, Thank you!

Packet 4 instructions ask the forms to be filled in english, even if you use the portuguese forms. I used the english ones.

Really? I used the ones in Portuguese that came in the packets and filled all of them in Portuguese (except maybe for DS230).

Same here. They sent me actually half of the forms in portuguese, half in both languages (like one side in english, the other in portuguese, or the top line in portuguese and the bottom line in english), so I filled them in portuguese. I filled my packet 3 in english tho, and the I-129/G-325 we also did everything in english.
So, like I said, I don't think it really matters.

Val then knew very little english. I did all in English. Went over everything with her (i was with her at interview) and we did not have a problem (with this part anyway). Our adjudicator just made sure that I can communicate well with her since she did not speak or understand english much.

Good luck!
