Just an out of the blue question if anyone knows the answer. Once someone has their green card, do they have access to the VWP like a US Citizen? We were just wondering 'cus my husbands brother and sister live in Italy and we were just wondering if we could go visit without him getting a visa for Italy. Although I am assuming getting one once he is a US GC holder will be much easier than just as a Moroccan citizen. Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm PRETTY sure that permanent residents are not allowed to participate in the the visa waiver program (unless of course they are citizens of the EU or already allowed to travel to the EU without a visa). I know that if my Algerian husband wanted to go to France he would still have to get a visa. Permanent residents are, however, allowed to cross the boarders into Canada and Mexico and go to various caribbean islands...

Permanent residents cannot participate because even though they have a green card, they continue to use the passport of the country where they hold citizenship.
