We need a crisis line for fasters. I am wanting some chai tea so bad I'm in a cold sweat. I'm so sleepy and it sounds SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!
rahma
Thank you God that I can normally have chai tea whenever I want star_smile.gif You have really blessed me and I'm grateful for all of it star_smile.gif
sarachid
maybe this is weird but I am used to fasting now.... and really even when it is time to break the fast I don't have a taste for anything.... Rachid makes me eat more but I only have about 2 hours to pray, eat, and spend time with Rachid before I have to go to sleep and wake up to do it all again.... work, work, work.... I need a vacation... wacko.gif

If your fasting and craving something doesnt that defeat the purpose?
Together4ever
You are to be aware of it and quiet it is my understanding. Its HUMAN to have cravings.

I think that's exactly the purpose. If you don't miss it, it's not a sacrifice. As Rahma said, it makes you appreciate what you have. luv.gif

Yup and compassion for those who do not.

A good friend of mine went on a 4 day fast this summer. She asked me to "eat & drink for her" by thinking of her while I was eating and drinking, and that her spirit would receive the sustenance.

I would drink chai for you today (and some water, too). smile.gif

I think cravings are uncontrollable. I also think that working all day and fasting is harder and BETTER than sleeping all day and waking up to eat. good.gif

Jean, I know how you feel... I crave hot tea and I can't waite to have some when iftar comes...I appreciate eating and drinking much more during this time and think of those who for different reasons don't have the luxury of always getting a meal or getting very little. I pray for them at iftar time.

You will be rewarded... yes.gif yes.gif

What does SO stand for?
I called to DOS yesterday and they were willing to give me a tiny bit of info. The fingerprints were sent to the DOS, but that is not the hold up rather just the process of the security checks. The person didn't comment on the length that it might still take but acknowledged that yes cases can take many, many months. They felt if the passport was needed back for purposes of work that the embassy should have no difficulty in returning it. When I said that currently my fiance is unemployed and seeking work and may receive a 3-6 month contract on sea they suggested that he stay near. I feel a little bettter knowing that the hold up is security checks but my fiance still has no idea what to do about his work situation. He needs to work, but if he gets a job what happens if the embassy wants him to come it. I WISH they just had the ability to say well at minimum it will be 2 months, but may take up to 5+ or we think it will be decided upon within the next 3 months. Has anyone ever gotten any sense of a time line from DOS?

Thats exactly what I think. What benefits are you getting when you aren't really sacrificing anything?

Now I'm dying for popcorn. ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. There is someone on this floor who makes popcorn every day to eat at her desk and the smell is just killing me. By the time I get home I'm not hungry anymore. Now see if I could think of some way to market the concept of "The Food Fantasy Diet" I wouldn't need this job. You would spend so many hours sitting in hunger fantasizing about all those naughty foods you want to devour and by the time your hunger dies you're allowed to go snuffle about in a salad or something...

My office mate here warmed up a Lean Pocket yesterday and it smelled sooo good! I wonder what's on the agenda for lunch today and what I'll smell, lol.
Together4ever
Yep. Same here. "Customer Service Appreciation Week." Free ice cream Tuesday, luncheon yesterday, now today they wanted to know if I wanted to order lunch out with them. *beating forehead against the desk* They make the BEST cheeseburgers. *whimpers* Oh dammit, I'm going to just sit with the waste can over my head and take it off when they're all done eating around me. Feel free to walk by and bang on it. Maybe the funny "whumpy" noise will give me comfort.

(I am grateful, I am grateful, I am grateful...)

Do I break fast if I lick my desk or suck on a paperclip? (I know I know...)

We had a staff meeting yesterday and they ordered out to my favorite Thai place and ate an hour before in the conference room. At one point they started talking about me and I heard a few people comment on how "barbaric" it was that I can't even have water. I felt bad. sad.gif They've never talked about me before in that way. Oh well. I know that I have to answer to Allah in the end and not to them.

You can try using the same mentaility I use on my diet...I eat to live, not live to eat. star_smile.gif

Its easy to call something "barbaric", especially when those people are thinking "man, I could never manage that." wink.gif There is only one person in my office that knows I'm fasting. I just don't talk about it because I am kind of burned out on the ignorance factor at this time.

The girl in the cubbie next to me has been eating $%#^%$ chips for like a freakin' hour now.

If she doesn't stop the crunching and the gulping (diet coke) would it be non-muslim of me to #$#$ slap the #$$% out of her?

I think we should all take a very important lesson from this... that is part of why we fast after all...
When I feel so hungry or thirsty while fasting, I start thinking about how I will be able to eat a wonderful meal tonight following the call to prayer BUT there are a LOT of people who haven't had anything to eat today (NOT EVEN SUHOOR ohmy.gif ) and they won't have anything tonight either, simply because they can't afford food. Most of those people who will go to sleep tonight with nothing on their empty bellies are children which makes it all that much more worse. sad.gif
We take things like food for granted (especially us Americans) every minute of every day.
Think about how much food each of us has wasted over the past year because we were full and just threw it out..... remember that wasted food now while you don't have anything to eat or drink.

Maybe it's a good opportunity to edumacate some of them a little. Fasting isn't barbaric, it's a good idea and is a part of many cultures and religions. The Greek Orthodox calendar is about 50% fasting days, the Native Americans regularly use fasting. Even the Catholics 'no meat on Fridays is a form of fasting. smile.gif

I am Greek Orthodox and our fasts are hard. Meauxna is right, 50% of our year is fasting. Yes we can eat, but its soooo limited. Grains & Veggies. Its really hard to do because you can't have any animal products at all.

Well then you should feel very proud that you resisted the tempation. good.gif It doesn't make any sense nor benifit you if all the temptation is taken away. star_smile.gif
