A police report is required from essentially every place you have lived for a period of more than 6 months since the age of 16. That includes places that you lived abroad. Some places will allow you to provide a third party to request it on your behalf. Each location is different. It might be helpful if you list the places and the experts from each location might be able to help with specifics.

They aren't required from countries that either don't issue them or require that you apply for them in person in the country.

So, the answer to my original questions will help determine that.

I don't know about Korea, but there is a VJ member "sillygirl" from the Philippines that just had her interview and was approved without obtaining the police clearance from Dubai. On the reciprocity list, UAE requires you to apply for it in person.

hi babyli,

i think you have to wait for the packet 4 and not for packet 3. sheriff ULING has the link for this packet. downloading the file from this link would help you to gather the necessary documents needed for your interview. have you properly filled up your timeline?

regards,

Not that I question your reply but I would like to see the source of this non-requirement. My fiancee' lived in Moldova when she attended university there and I am hoping not to have to send her abroad to retrieve a police certificate. While Moldova is a neighboring country if I can eliminate this hassle then that would be cool. I don't know if this matters but Moldova requires the applicant to make the application in person by the applicant or in person by a third party with proper power of attorney.

To find out whether a particular country requires you to be present to get a police clearance, check the reciprocity list. Mew gave the link in her post here. For Moldova, it does not specify that you have to apply in person so I would surmise that it is required.

I checked the list for Korea. It says that for applicants outside of Korea it is not available. It looks like you won't need one from Korea either.

I have already looked at the reciprocity site. For Moldova it is somewhat vague i agree.

Let me clarify, according to the Moldovian Ministry of Interior website it states the process of acquiring a police certificate (the site is in Romanian so I had it interpreted by a fellow VJ member). It says it is done in person (applicant or third party with POA), at the Ministies headquarters in Chisnau and for an expedite fee it can be acquired in the same day. It can be done also at any one of several chancellories but no expedite service and it takes 10 days. The certificate can be provided in English (so no translation needed).

If you have the citation of the police certificate requirements I would appreciate it so I can make my own conclusion that would help me a lot.

I will however go back to the VJ member who helped me to see if there is another option for those who are abroad. Maybe it is as simple as going to the embassy.... well that might not be simple...

Thanks

Although they say you have to apply in person in Dubai, we were able to obtain it for Marlene by completing some forms from the UAE embassy in Manila and providing an "agent" letter to the relative of a friend that was still living in Dubai. It was not a simple matter and the cost of obtaining it was painful. We didn't want to take any chances.

I would suggest that anyone having concerns about a police certificate should contact the immigrant visa section of the consulate where they will interview and ask if it will be required specifically citing the information from the reciprocity list for that country. Looking back, If we had done that, we might have saved alot of time, effort, and money.

Actually that was a thought I was just pondering. I will send an e-mail to the consulate. Thanks!!!

I will say that having the police clearance from Dubai provided alot of peace of mind.

I have sent off an e-mail to the consulate in Kiev. Hopefully I will have a definitive answer in a few days.
