As a USC with my husband in Canada - these are my favorites he's always enjoying that I can't have! (but LOVE) Canadian-Chineese Food, Fries & Gravy, Tim's Honey Crulers, Stronger beer, Pizza Delight, Irving Food, Moose, oh my list could go on and on!
Here's a "custom" that I would like Americans to adopt - removing your shoes when you enter a house. I found it strange at first, but now I wish everyone removed their shoes when they come to mine!

I so agree with you on the custom of removing shoes. My husband comes in and takes his shoes off at the couch where I can trip over those Size 12's all the time. The Europeans do this too.

I miss being able to buy good over-the-counter drugs such as 222's, Robaxet, Allegra and a few others. Prescription drugs are big business in the States and you have to pay for everything, so bring your favourites.
While you're stocking up on Chez Whiz, think about this: the aisles of the supermarkets in the States are filled with junk food. But not to worry, because in the last aisle, there's a pharmacy. That's where your high health insurance premiums will help you pay hundreds a month for pills to keep your cholesterol in check (from eating all that Chez Whiz). You'll get to live another 20 years on expensive meds!
Later, if you're lucky, you'll be in a nursing home so they can keep you alive another few years at $8,000 a month. It's all big business. So have another cheeseburrger and keep the economy healthy.

My favourite things that I miss about Canada (other than my family....don't get me started on that

)............I dearly miss sweet mustard pickles (haven't seen not one jar anywhere) my husband loves them and we brought some back with us but not enough, we don't even have any left for Thanksgiving this weekend........Sour Creme and Bacon Chips..........Pineapple Pop................YES...........CHEESE WHIZ (I can't believe they don't have the big bottles and yes they're like the nacho stuff.....tsk tsk!!.......... Fries with dressing and gravy

..............I could go on and go but I should leave some for you fine folks to list..
And yes, what is it with Americans not taking their shoes off when they enter peoples homes......it's the same where my sister lives in California!! My hubby takes his off now but it's so weird when I go to someone's home and they say 'Oh don't bother taking off your shoes!!" But I take them off cause I don't want to mess their floors up....Go Figure.............................{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}

Some things I took a strong liking to in Canada and now miss in the states. Pilsners, Coffee Crips (it makes a nice light snack), all the Cadbury chocolates.
BTW, I've had pineapple pop in the states. I think it was Safeway brand.

Well I guess i got lucky cause my Fiance (USC) removes his shoes all the time in his house

Im from montreal so heres what I am going to miss : Poutine (off course) and smoked meat. And probably the famous gravy sauce that everybody eats here with their chicken. I heard the gravy down there is not even close to be good. I will probable bring a box of those little pouches with powder mix to make both Poutine and BBQ gravy

As for poutine cheese curds seems to be available around NY, Vermont and Maine, but not around Illinois. I may have to drive up to Wisconsin to get some.... What will i do for a poutine lol.
i got lucky there is a grocery store with a french section and they got my favorite jam that I buy here in Montreal

I'm only heading as far as Boston, so the climate will be similar, if a bit less wintery, and I'll be able to get back for a visit fairly often (once I get AP anyway), but I'll definitely be missing Aero bars and poutine and St-Hubert chicken and my FI already knows we'll have to come back for at least the Jazz fest in the summer.

check the labels on peanut butter down here, some brands contain trans-fats for some inexplicable reason

I buy Smuckers Natural now. Its just peanuts.
and check labels on yogurt, some have HFCS in them, and some have sooooooooo much sugars in them you might as well just eat a 5 lb bag for lunch

I usually buy Breyer's Light, its got the least amount of sugars in it. Even the ones that are the same brand names as in Canada, different ingredients.
I still miss Shreddies *sigh*

2. KFC's chicken gravy (the KFC gravy in the States just doesn't measure up)
2. Cadbury Chocolate Bars (esp. Coffee Crisp & Flake)
3. Hostess Potato Chips (esp. ketchup, dill, and roast chicken flavours)
4. Sour Soother candies
5. Bassetts Licorice Allsorts

my husband and I just discussed the shoes thing again. He's inherited his parent's house, which is all hardwood except for the den and downstairs bedrooms, which I hope to laminate (I dislike carpeting).
His mother seems to have had a slipper fetish. There's about 2 dozen pairs of them stuffed into the closets. I figure if I leave them at the doorways Japanese style, and tell everyone to remove their shoes, they won't feel so awkward showing off their feet. Or whatever it is that makes them keep their shoes on.
Now, if I could just get the dogs to wash before they come in from the yard!

I don't miss all those crappy canuck beers any more. Ex, Canadian, Blue, 50, OV etc. Sam Adams, Grolsh, Heiniken for me. Sure the Canadian Beers are generally better than Budweiser or Pabst but they are not all that great. Of course, there are independent brewries everywhere. The ones in Canada are no better than there US counterparts.
What I miss is the Bread and Cheese. I have to go to NYC to get decent stuff. Here we have only 1 or 2 brands that are edible. I miss peameal bacon, Mr Submarine, Timbo's, healthcare, relatively uncomplicated tax law, RRSP's, Gun control, and News that doesn't consider Neo Conservatism as a legitimate ideology.

I generally just like beer with some flavour in it. Mass produced stuff like Canadian, 50, Bud, Coors etc, just don't cut it. Not even for a cheap buz. In my experience, the cheaper the beer, the worse the hangover the next day

Funny you should ask this question. I started a list of items I can't get in Fla.... or at least haven't found, as yet... so I can bring at least some of them back with me. I know there's more but....

mmmmmmmmm Crown Royal. Now I'm going to have to make a trip to the ABC store. I've been here 2 years this week, and never stepped foot in the liquor store yet. Howz that for pathetic?
