My fiancee had her medical appointment on the 28th of Sept. She lives in the midlands and we set it up for her to take the coach down to Victoria Station then a taxi from there to the medical building. Was an excellent way to get into London without fighting traffic or underground. Victoria Station is only a short taxi ride so it seemed the best way to do it. Now what happened on the day of the appointment turned a simple trip into a comedy of errors. My fiancee and her daughter met the bus in their home town and everything went good until the bus was on the motorway heading to London. As per what seems to be the norm now in England the motorway was closed due to a serious accident. The coach finally was able to exit the motorway and take an alternate route but that whole process delayed the arrival at Victoria Station by over 2 hours!!! My fiancee fearing she would not make her appointment called the medical facility and they told her they could get her in later in the afternoon at around 3pm. All well and good, so when she arrived at Victoria Station she stopped to see if she could get on a later bus (she was scheduled to return on the 4:30pm run) She was told that was the last bus for the day to her destination. Being the sane and wise person that she is, she immediately got a taxi and went to the medical facility to see if they could fit her in earlier. When she arrived, they told her "no problem we are really slow today and will take you right away".
After filling in all the additional forms and starting the process, the nurse conducting the physical noticed that my fiancee did not have her shot record available and that her daughter was missing one shot from her record. Now this is the interesting part. The woman (knowing it was a K-1 visa) informed my fiancee that if she didnt get the shots right away it would delay her visa process until she did. She started to say something else and my fiancee interrupted her informing her that under the K-1 visa she wasnt required to get the shots until applying for AOS. The nurse immediately stopped talking about it and wrote in the report that my fiancee wished to defer the shots.
Bottom line there is like we have heard from others, the medical facility doing the physical will try to get you to pay for the shots at their clinic!!!!! Dont let them con you into that!!! There is no sense in paying 30 pounds per shot when they can be done free, and there is no requirement to have them done prior to interview.
Second thing which surprised us was the eye examination. No where did it mention that there would be eye examination and no where did it say to bring your glasses. Luckily my fiancee had hers with her (she doesnt need to wear them all the time). The nurse said that she needed a new prescription (the eye test consisted of reading a wall chart) and she told my fiancee she would have to have the prescription with her on the day of the interview!!! Okay this seems really silly to us. On top of everything else, is it a requirement that a person applying for a visa have good eye sight? Just another stupid thing that the medical facility went on about.
Over all the medical facility personnel were either rude or had the personalities of slow moving slugs. Seems that because they have the contract to conduct these physicals they have a grandiose view of their importance!!!
Now for the ending of a really weird day. After the physical my fiancee and daughter returned to Victoria Station and boarded the coach. When stopping at Heathrow on the way home the driver hit another bus causing damage to the bus they were on so that it couldnt continue. So now they had to wait until another bus showed up (over 2 hour delay) then when the new driver arrived he informed the passengers that he had never driven this route and had no idea where he was going. So for the next three hours successive passengers sat near the driver and gave directions to the next town where the bus would stop. My fiancee had to give him directions out of one city to the town in which she lived, then another passenger took over.
What should have been a nice bus ride into London, turned into a trip from hell, and my fiancee didnt arrive home until almost midnight whereas she should have been home around 8:30pm.
Now top that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
