Hi. I am the petitioner and my husband, although he was born in India, is now a Canadian citizen. He left India when he was 16 and we are unsure if he needs a police certificate. He turned 16 in May of the year he left but left India in December so we think since he was there over 6 months after the age of 16 that we need one. He hasn't been there for 31 years...what a hassle. So, my question is this: have any of you from Canada had to get a police certificate from India? The form offered by the Indian embassy here in Washington D.C. seems very confusing and only asks for address in India and/or US. My husband doesn't live in either one. So, we went online and looked at the Indian embassy website in Toronto. The form makes much more sense. Has anyone ordered a police certificate from the Toronto Indian embassy and if so, how long did it take? We are worried that it is going to take months. And it should be acceptable whether we get it from the Indian embassy in Canada or in the US, right?

Have you tried getting in touch with the U.S. consulate or embassy in India? That is how my wife got her police certificate from Rwanda when she was applying for a K1. The web site should be found through the state department web site.

http://usembassy.state.gov/ There are different ones for India linked there.

IMO, it will be unnecessary.
