I'm going to get my passport photo taken very soon (want to do it tommorrow) and was going to do it in a photo booth (I used that for my passport). I've been told that they wont accept a photobooth passport shot - where did you get your passport photo taken? Thanks

Snappy Snaps!
I will add that it is not that they will not accept a photobooth picture but it is because they are very particular about the photo itself and getting a photo from a booth that meets the specifications will be nearly impossible. If you have not already done so get a copy of the specification sheet and read and understand it because even some experienced places will make mistakes. There have been many who have had photos taken and have had them ultimately rejected because of simple things such as head position, shadowing or the wrong colored background that were out of spec. When you get your photos taken compare the pic to the spec sheet and be sure it is good.

Paul went to a pro photographers studio. It was more than a booth, but it was exactly what we needed. Maybe try calling the photography studios in your area.
I was visiting at the time and had a blast looking through all the wedding albums the guy had. The whole process took about 15 minutes.

Thanks for all the advise guys - I was about to pop into Snappy Snaps but then I realised that I would be able to get them done on the airforce base so it would be ALOT cheaper and I guess they are used to taking passport photos the way that the us want them!!

If you're anywhere near York, it's K & L Photography and they charged us 50 pounds.

Now THAT'S a stroke of genius!
For those reading this thread, I THINK Snappy Snaps charged us something like 6 quid for the passport pics (last fall)....I'm not sure but I know it was less than a tenner!

There is a place on Oxford street in London that does US passport and visa pics, it is only 5 mins walk from th embassy and is very quick and painless. Not too pricey

I got mine done at a photo shop in Bracknell and it was six quid for four which wasn't bad

I suspect there are a lot of places that can do it if you ask.

Annie downloaded a pdf file from the US Embassy (Edinburgh) website. It was just over a tenner.
The file had names and addresses of places that knew the US spec. for the photos. She is going to respond tommorow and post the link.

Hello. Ok so my lovely hubby beat me to it and posted you the link, but I found a bit more information that I thought folks might find useful. I do recall, in the dim and distant past, that there was a pdf of scottish photographers that they were giving out, and I am still trying to find it. Meanwhile, here are a couple of bits to help you. This is all relating to how US citizens in the UK can get their passport pictures taken (the 2 by 2 measure also - coincidently - required for UK peeps for their visa applications).
Links are as follows:

Ok - so i had my photo taken at Mildenhall base - people in the military go there for passport photos, spouses go there for visa photos and I assumed that as it's the us govenment that have these people on the base (an american company) that they would do it right. Everything looked good - got my 2 passport pictures taken for $5.75 and now I've checked the photo spec and it says about having to have 1/2 inch between the top of the photo and the top of my head - but there is just over 1/4 inch space! Does this mean they wont accept this photo? My fiance got his passport picture taken there and his was accepted and when i was there i asked if anyone had been turned away with the photos they take and they said no. What u guys think?

It'll be up to whoever interviews you. At the US Embassy in London they measured my husband's photos with a machine that lined up his face with a template on a screen. If yours are too far out I imagine they'd reject them.

So my fiance went to a place listed on that Pdf.
Catch The Moment in Bristol
They said oh we waited a long time to get on the embassy's list so we know how to do pics.
J had to tell them FOUR time to redo them, they are not right. He measured every time & told them it was wrong(different reasons every time). They didn't even measure!! J said, these have to be right, and the space above my head is 1/4". The woman says isn't that right? He said NO, it's 1/2".
He has to go back today lunchtime (the interview is tmrow). He said they NEED to be right. She said they will be. I'm complaining to the embassy though, what a waste of time for him.

Photo Booth outside London Bridge Station.
2 quid?
I had real problems finding a Photo Booth in the US, in the end used one of those places in the mall, highway robbery.
The requirements are not that tricky and you get a chance to approve in a photo booth.

I did mine myself at home. If you have a ddigital camera and a white background then you can pretty much crop the photo to the right specs in Adobe photoshop, easy, and I had no problems.

I just popped into my local photographic/camera store where they took passport photos and told them that I wanted US passport size photos...she knew exactly what I was talking about and it cost me 5 pounds for 4 of them. She said that any passport photo store can do any size photos, as long as they are digital ones, which most are now.
