I am sorry to bug you with this silly question, but my husband and I just had a little discussion whether we can include a personal check to cover the fee, or does it have to be certified.

Could you please clarify this?

Personal check if fine... just be sure good funds are behind it.

yeah i agree either way ..we sent in for our aos stuff a personal cheque but for the I-129f application we went with western union and both were accepted...

if you are doing a personal cheque you can see your receipt number on the back of your cheque which helps in tracking on uscis website to how your application is coming along

good luck
take care

From the USCIS website:

Paying Fees:
PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH OR TRAVELERS CHECKS. The Service Center will accept money orders, personal checks, and cashiers checks for payment of fees. The Service Center cannot deposit cash or travelers checks. Be sure checks are signed and correctly dated.

I would use a personal check, much cheaper than a certified one, and you can easily see when it is cashed.

As a bonus, we're planning on paying with a personal check from our joint checking account.

I'm not sure that it makes any difference, though. My suspicion is that the check gets pulled and cashed by some clerk-type person right away, and by the time the adjudicator sees the package, all evidence of the check may be gone. Still, that's the most convenient way to pay, and a bonus is that it might add one more tiny bit of information that paints a picture of shared finances.

I just paid by a normal cheque from ourr joint acct that had both our names on it.

HI!
Personal check would be fine. Also if the personal check has both names on it as u and ur husbands name that would be also a good evidence for the Removal of the Conditions.
You or him should sign it then.
Best wishes. rose.gif

Thank you for your help...we submitted a personal check as I did not want to come back to RiteAid for money order...yesterday they took my passport style pics...and then they were not ready as their machine got jammed, so this afternoon I got them free of charge...lol..so I felt awkward going there again for moneyorder....wheeew.

I will mail my petition tomorrow, so I will let everybody know how it goes with Vermont Service Center. whistling.gif
