Darcy has his interview tomorrow in Vancouver. He is a nervous wreck. He leaves this evening at 6:40 p.m. out of Cleveland and arrives in Vancouver at 10:50 p.m. His interview is at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. Of course, we procrastinated in getting him a hotel room until our return from Disney. Well low and behold there is a convention in town and no rooms available. He is staying about 10 blocks away but he isn't too concerned with this because he used to walk 2 miles a day to work. The scramble will be from the Consulate to the airport for his 4:00 p.m. flight to Hamilton, ON. He is however checking in for his flight tonight so he only needs to be there 1/2 hour before the flight (according to WestJet).

I think I am just as nervous sitting here in Cleveland worrying and wondering.

Best of luck!! Sure cutting that departure flight close, as I recall (lived in Victoria for 9 yrs) Its a bit of distance from Downtown Vancouver to the airport. Lots of tarffic. Best of luck

He was told it would take 15-20 minutes. He is taking a shuttle to the airport. I guess we will see. He has the last flight out of Vancouver to Hamilton. Believe me, I am extremely nervous about that part. I am one of those people that shows up at the airport well in advance so I am a nervous wreck over that part.

Looked up on Mapquest and its only 9 miles,so I guess it will all depend on traffic. I too prefer to be at the airport well in advance!! Once he is in possesion of the visa, who cares, lol Cheers

If he gets his K-1 Visa and out the door of the consulate by 2:15pm (which he should be able to do) and with that time of day it should be reasonable to get from downtown to YVR in 15-25 minutes ...

Is there a certain time and location the shuttle leaves ?? I guess he could always grab a cab if the shuttle times are don't fit into his timing ...

And tell him to relax ... Vancouver was a breeze ...

I hope he makes it on time. If it was me, I'd definitely take a taxi. It'll take at least 20 minutes to get from downtown to the airport under the best of circumstances, and lately there have been long line-ups getting through security at YVR. It'll probably be worse this week with the new regulations coming into effect yesterday.

There are bus/taxi lanes during rush hour, so he should be fine. At around 2:30, it should only take 20 minutes to get to the airport. Keep in mind that if he takes the Airporter shuttle, it makes stops at several hotels along the way, and to pick up passenger. If he is pressed for time, he should maybe think about a cab. About $35 from downtown.

Yikes @ that time crunch .. For the record when i went back to the consulate to pick up our visa's i arrived first out of 4 of us picking Visa's up that afternoon .. but i was called to the counter last ! It was after 2:45 ish before i was out the door ... Good Luck @ the interview ! For sure take a taxi to the airport .. they know all the shortcuts and a shuttle will just sit in traffic and make other stops Hope he makes his flight But the Visa is way more important

Well today is the day! I have chained myself to my desk so I don't miss the phone call.

Thanks for all the advice on him getting to the airport. I am more nervous about that than him getting the visa. Security check at the airport shouldn't be an issue because he has zero luggage. All he has is the stacks of paperwork that went up with him and his coat. His hotel was too far away for him to be able to leave luggage there after checkout. He is already checked in at the airport with WestJet so hopefully he will make his flight!

He must be almost out by now. Vancouver is 4 hrs behind us in Cleveland so it's 11. We'll hear something soon I hope.

I need to remember to kick your butt if we ever meet.... You gave me a heart attack.

He called right after the interview. He said it was pure hell. He was talking so fast I could barely get a word in. He is horrible with dates and couldn't remember when we met. I had it all documented in his folder but he was so nervous he couldn't remember the dates. He said they put him through the ringer over that. Also, the doctor in Calgary that he went to filled out the medical paperwork wrong. They have contacted the doctor's office and have asked for information immediately. The drama never ends with this visa stuff. They said for him to be back between 1:30 and 2:00 since he expressed that he had a 4:00 p.m. flight to Hamilton, ON. Also, he is taking a cab to the airport so hopefully he will make it!

You know, if I asked any of my friends when they met their SO, most wouldn't know the date. I am certain snugglebunny wouldn't have a clue. I can only do it if I count back from Sept. 11, I think it was sept. 8, but that depends on whether 9/11 happend on a Monday or Tuesday... I will make a mental note to memorize whatever I wrote on the form!
