Hi there.

I want to hear real experiences regarding changing address and consulate for the beneficiary's K-1 interview. Is there anyone here who has done this already? Did you make the change with USCIS service center or NVC? Did the consul ask for some documents, like proof of residency or work permit, to the beneficiary in that country? Is it possible to get an interview there with only a tourist visa status? It would be helphful if you could give me inputs for Ciudad Juarez and Belize.

Thank you in advance.

The local Consulate requires proof that the benificiary has (usually) 6 months forward legal stay in the 3rd country. Usually impossible on a tourist visa, especially if the USC is not resident abroad.

They also frown on the practice of 'consulate shopping' which is what it sounds like you're after.

Expect delays for foriegn documents (how will CDJ know what an NSO paper is etc).

Here is one members timeline that did change consulates.

Filed August 2004
Approved December 2004
Interview March 2005
Transferred May 2005
New Interview October 2005
Put on AR/AP and then issued the Visa.

Made this person refile new paperwork and was a very big headache. Visa was not issued until February 2006.

I would think very long and hard before I changed and agree with what Meauxna posted prior to my post.

Thanks to you guys. Just want to make it clear that I am not "consulate shopping." I am really relocating. I just want to hear real experiences so that I can be prepared for the interview, so I hope to hear more.

Belize

Excellent! Recent reports are that they're quite nice to work with, and fast, with such a small post.
Give my regards and have a happy move (or two!) smile.gif
