Full Version: K-3 visa type R or NR?

My wife just got her K-3 visa and it is stamped R K3. I assume this means resident but it could also mean something else - I thought all K-3 visas were non-resident. Does it make any difference to us that hers is stamped R instead of NR? Does anyone else have this stamped on their visa?

miker32us,

I suspect that everyone else who you are likely to run into will have a visa of Type R (not to be confused with Classification R, although you will usually see visa classifications referred to as visa types).

I've read on the web (i.e. not to be trusted) that Type R means a visa issued to a regular citizen, as opposed to for example a government official (a diplomat).

Whether that is true or not, I think it makes more sense than the assumption that the R stands for resident.
