If they're doing a series on Muslims in America, they will be remise if they don't cover someone from the mainstream African American Muslim portion of the community. They are the majority of American Muslims, the oldest among us, but, sadly, the most ignored in favor of showcasing Arab Muslims and white reverts.

An African American muslim have gotten a ton of press in Minnesota recently. Keith Ellison won the democratic primary and is almost guaranteed a seat in congress.

Plus, the masjid I attend here that used to be a NOI temple is expanding and will be the first masjid in the state with a dome and minaret. That got coverage on MPR.

I'm waiting to see if African American Muslims are among the "Muslims In America" for NPR. So far, no. Essentially, they are playing to stereotype, which is typical.

szsz,
I'm just curious, you have no info in your profile - are you filing K1, K3? from what country? no timeline set up... please don't take this as any form of disrespect, but I'm just curious b/c there is *no* information for you. Please enlighten....

I don't mind at all, noura and take it as no disrespect for you to ask. It's funny, I put that info in my profile when I registered, but it has since disappeared. I'm filing for a K3 from Morocco. My husband and I were married (legally) in 2005, but didn't file until July 2006. I was moving in the US, and I live in Morocco part of the year, so we were in no hurry.

I need to fix the profile . . .
