I just got the okay from the embassy for us to send my wife's son back to Ukraine for his interview under the K-2 section. They asked me to send a revalidation letter of my original petition. Does anyone know what this is and how it should be worded? What documents are needed with this letter? We have a list of other things that he will need for the interview but this is something new. I'm not exactly sure what a "revalidation letter" is.

I found out the answer to my question. For those of you interested, a revalidation letter is basically a letter stating that you want the child or children to come to the U.S. and that you will be financially responsible for them and they will be living with you. It seems simple, so just don't understand why the embassy could say the same thing. Oh well, he should be leaving for Kiev in a couple of weeks if we can get everything in order.

I hope this will help others with the same scenario.

1HappyGuy,

Thanks for following with the answer to your question - it is good information to know.

The consulate is probably like some VJers - they get so used to using jargon that they forget not everyone knows it.

We just got the response from the revalidation letter and request for an appointment. My wife's son has an appointment in Kiev on October 11th. We are dancing on our household now.

To any others that have this plan, make sure you understand the entire procedure especially if you have a fiancee with kids under 21. But, above all, you need to meet the kids and see how you interact. With my wife's son I have a great relationship. He's wanted to have a real father for years and I finally have a son.

I wish I had known about VJ a year ago. Thanks everyone.

Well, the process in Ukraine is just about finished. My wife's son received his new visa today. He'll be in Kiev for another week and we will pick him up on Tuesday afternoon, October 24th. Now he'll get to see what Halloween is all about.

It has been a worrisome venture and my wife won't be relaxed until she sees him walk out of the gate at the airport. We will be filing for his adjustment of status as soon as possible.

Thanks for everyone's good thoughts and support.
