Hi all,
I'm a Nigerian by birth but i haven't had Nigerian passport since i was very young and i have lost it now. I'm going to Nigeria in october but i have not bought my ticket yet. I'm buying it in 2 weeks. I was wondering if i apply for a visa now, they might deny me 'cause i don't have my ticket yet. I recieved a visa in December but i had a ticket then. Does anybody have information concerning this ?? Please help. I don't wanna wait until 2 weeks to apply for the visa it might be too late !

The best way to get this answer is to call them and find out. Advise them of your situation and see what they say. Remember other countries are not as strict as the US in issuing tourist visas and are often friendly and helpful too.

You have to show "good faith" that you have bought/are buying a ticket. When I was going, I had the consern that I might buy the ticket and then not get a visa (and be out all that money). I called them and they said that I had to show good faith had or was buying a ticket. I ended up buying the ticket with refund ability. I sent a copy of the itinery (which said how much I paid and flight dates) and that was fine. I think you need something similar to that to get the visa.

But if you are nigerian, wouldnt it make more financial sense to get another nigerian passport? That way you wont need a visa.. I know you can get it from the Nigerian embassy in New York I was there twice to pick up my visas and saw Nigerians there getting their passports. I think that would be more cost effective than buying visas. You can even have a US and Nigerian Passport legally if that is your concern because Nigeria allows for dual citizenship.
