Sammy -- have you tried Trader Joes or Ralph's Fresh Fare? (the posh ralphs?) they have decent and cheap cheese selections there

Sammy. I have never seen any of those cheeses in the US. Its pretty hard to find English cheese in the US, the only thing I've really found is Stilton (at Trader Joe's in CA) and occasionally you can get English Cheddar as well (but that's rare also, most Californians think Cheddar is an American Cheese coloured orange). I found some "English Sheeps Milk Cheese" once at TJ's as well, but didn't try it. I'm afraid the stupid American stereotype that all English food is bad means that not much gets imported from the UK over here, despite our great and underappreciated cheese making abilities!

Never tried igourmet.com BTW.

Definitely try Trader Joes. They have an imported cheddar from Dorset which is ded cheap and very nice. TJ also have a few other English things like crumpets good.gif I would shop there all the time if I could. I love that store.

Another option would be to try a co-op. My local co-op has many imported cheeses, including a load from Neals Yard. If they don't have any, chat up the deli person and see if they can get interested in it. Often they won't stock it if there's no market for it, so make a noise!

Even in sleepy VT I can find good English cheese, so I have no doubt you'll find quite a selection in CA. good.gif

CA is actually worse for cheese than Vermont, mainly due to the Californian being pursuaded by constant advertising that California cheese is the best in the world(!).

When I moved to the East Coast the first thing I noticed was that the quality of cheese I could get in the supermarket was dramatically better than in California.

TJs is an oasis in California in a desert of tasteless, orange, californian cheddar.
