If you have an emergancy and have some evidence to show USCIS then your local office can issue an emergency AP....

You have not said what the emergancy is so cant give any better advice...

IIRC Kweli wants to return to France to do some exams in October. Is this what the AP is for Kweli?

If so, I doubt you'll get an emergency AP, sorry.

I know it is very unlikely that I get an emergency AP for exams. This is why I am wondering if congressman can be helpful. I am writing a PhD dissertation and missing my exams will wipe out the results of 3 years of hard work. That would be an absolute catastrophy for me. I called the service center today, a lady told me that they were processing cases received in April. Damn

I already used the congressman for having a new interview date for my K1 visa. (Check my timeline). Maybe the same congressman can be useful in this case as well.

What's your opinion on this issue?

I dont see how a congressman can help with this as you are still within the processing timeframe and it is not a emergancy....

With hind sight you maybe should have waited to use your K1 until you had finished your schooling...

Emergency AP is for exactly that...an Emergency !!

I understand that it is important that you complete the exams in order to complete your Phd but in the eyes of the USCIS, while this might be something that would warrant being issued a regualr AP document, I fail to see how you will convince the USCIS, even with the use of a your congressman, how this is an unplanned, unavoidable emergency.

I agree with Kezzie that perhaps some more forward planning would have avoided this situation from arising. It can't hurt to contact your congressman but I wouldn't hold out too much hope that they will be able to help you too much.

You knmow the old adage... poor planning on your part does not make an emergency on my part...

Most likely, if there is an emergency need they can help. But sometimes applying on your own may be just as fast. Check with the local district office and inquire on the emergency AP and they can help. I had a friend work through their Senator and they got emergency AP the next day for the emergency reason of the sudden death of their father.

If the exams were so important, you could have delayed coming until after the exams. The K-1 visa was good for 6 months. You didn't have to use the K-1 until November which would have been after your exams. It appears you made some unwise choices in your timing and are in this predicament. The valid justification for an AP does not even include educational requirements. Justification for AP included brief and casual trips and brief trips for family reasons. Emergency AP would be for family reasons with short notice. I doubt they would entertain an emergency AP for an issue not even covered as justification in a nonemergency. Your best hope is that the AP you applied for is granted in time.
