I am wondering how many copies I should have 'apostilled' of my marriage license and birth certificate. I know that it is going to better to have more than less but if someone has already been there and done this do you have any advice?

I don't know if most places will accept a notarized marriage license and birth certificate or if they are wanting the apostille as well. I have 2 weeks before I move to Munich and I wanted to get this rolling!

Thanks everyone!

Hi Duellama,

Did you marry in Germany? I don't know too much about the marriage certificate, but the birth certificate doesn't need an Apostille. Just get the international birth certificate at your local Standesamt. Each copy is about 7 Euro. Get two copies at least. I sent in a copy for AOS and kept another copy if they might ask for it during the interview.
Why don't you post your question in the K3 Forum? They certainly know if a beglaubigte marriage license is sufficient or if you really need an Apostille. That's expensive and a pain to wait for in the Amtsgericht.

if you got married or were born anywhere else but in Germany, yes you need an apostille.
If you were born and married in Germany, get 2 beglaubigte internationale Geburtsurkunden and 2 internationale Heiratsurkunden and it will be enough. If you wanna get 3 just to be sure, get them. I got 3 and got one more for our documents.
