I know that on the customs form my husband must fill out upon entering the US, there is a question asking if you've had contact with soil/agriculture/etc. from your home country....what happens if you answer YES? do they take you away and like inspect your shoes for soil residue?
I'm thinking my husband should not mention his occassional work on his farm....suggestions? thanks!

They don't ask if you've had contact, they ask if you are try to bring it into the US. He should be ok.

At worst, they will likely spray your shoes with disinfectant.. best to tell the truth.

When I was in Iceland last, we visited a friend's mother's horse farm. So when I was coming back I figured I'd better be honest and check Yes to the "were you on a farm" question (or however it's worded, but it is worded such to show exposure, not bringing farm animals with you).
When I got to the customs officer he asked "Do you live near any farms?" I said no, I live in the suburbs. He said, "OK, bye!"
So if you live near a farm, maybe they will spray his shoes, but I still feel like you are better being truthful.

belize,
Yes, they will take your shoes and test them. Then bring them back to you. Will cost you maybe 15 minutes of waiting time.
Why should your husband not mention work on his farm? It doesn't make him inadmissable. If he's been on a farm he should say so.

We came through customs after a trip from England a few years back during the foot and mouth disease scare. We answered truthfully that we had walked around a field with some sheep in it, and they disinfected our shoes. No big deal.
