Hey, good luck everyone on your September 20th interivews.....since I am getting conflicting reports on what all I will (Indian fiance) need to collect for my interview, for which i want to start preparing now, due to time issues later, could you please tell me what all you have been requested to furnish.

One imprtoiant question: Do they need police certificates for every place I have stayed in, past 5 years, or will just my current (also permanent) residence do? This is important for me since I would need to visit a couple of cities to get this done and I dont really have time.

2. I have also renewed my passport and I read somewhere that someone whose passport has been renewed 6 months before the interview does not need a police certificate. Is this true?
shalz
Oh wow... congratz to KP, timesnap, and CFO..... !!!
Good luck with the Interview ya'll.

Timesnap -- I used regular mail. used to reach there in 7 days. but since you have less days left... you mite wanna use fedex or DHL.

Delhiguy ---We had the similar issue. my fiance's passport was issued in mangalore. and after graduating he came back home... and then we thought he would have to go mangalore to get his passport clearance done. but what he did was he changed his address on the passport ... and then got the clearance done from chandigarh itself. (what a relief it was) !!!

Now, I would like to understand your situation... from what I read, I think you got a new passport? if im wrong please correct me.. so i can answer your question.

Shalz
Delhiguy
Hi Shalz,

Let me explain the situation here.

I have moved around a bit in the last 5 years. However, my permanent address (an Indian concept) and hence the address on my old and new passport are the same for the past 12 years. It is the same address that I am living at for the past one year, in Delhi. (Family-owned residence)

I have just renewed my passport since it had expired, so yes, it is a new passport.

My question is, would I need police certificates even though i have just renewed my passport, which by inference means that the police have already verified my address?

Secondly, if I do need police certificates (local one would not be an issue), would I need them for all my addresses in the past 5 years? The only way that can be seen is by my employment history which shows my moving.

Shalz, congrats again on the visa. I know my questions might seem not so urgent to you since we are only now filing for the I-129, but I am trying to get all my papers together, and will need to plan out everything if I need to go to other cities. I would like to get all my papers together before time, and fingers crossed, going through the Vermont Service center, could, with a miracle, have us looking at an interview in the nest 2-3 months.

If possible, please post a list of all documents required by the embassy here.

And do stay in touch please, would love any kind of help through the process.

Thanks in advance.
calOC
Delhiguy,

If your passport was issued within the last 6 months you should only need the report from the passport office. I am not sure what you mean by renewed; if just the expiry date was extended on a previously issued passport then you may need reports from the police dept as well.

kpathak
Delhiguy -- I agree with calOC -- I have also heard that you don't need a police certificate of your passport has been issued in the past 6 months (of the interview date). A report from the passport office is all you need.

Please let me know when she gets her packet 4. We have still not recd packet 3 and I am confused and worried about packet 4. Also has she already gotten all her vaccinations yet ? My husband has his appt scheduled for monday ..and he has no record of vaccinations that he had when he was young..I just hope vaccinations dont take long to be administered :-(

And yeah I sent all supporting documents to him today which he should get by monday or tuesday ! Keeping my fingers crossed !

kpathak,

I'm a girl. blush.gif My Avinash will be there on September 20th. Is anyone going to fly over for moral support during the interview? I was thinking about it.

timesnap
well not me ...I just came back on August 17 so cant go back again. Did not know it will hapen so soon o/w would have postponed the trip may be ....
kpathak
Nah -- I am not flying out there either. I figured that I could probably spend the $2K on a nice vacation for the two of us instead of going to India. It's not like you can go in with the spouse for the interview anyway...

Cheers,
KP

Timesnap, don't worry yaar... here is the scoop. My wife still has not gotten packet 3. She couriered the DS-230 part I and hence satisfied the requirements for the interview date. So did your husband. Day before yesterday, Aradhana got a hold of someone at the embassy and got her interview date. So did your hubby. The guy at the immigration visa section told her to show up between 2PM and 3 PM at counter number 14 or 15 (I incorrectly said counter 17 earlier) and pick up her packet 4. So can your hubby.

Medical exam needs an appointment letter (Aradhana called the doctors and found out). They also do the shots at the same place. No appointment needed and it's a one-day deal. So the next step is -- get the Police and Passport clearance leters, pick up packet 4, get medical done, submit courier fees and get the other documents ready.

Incidentally, I also got an email from ND a couple of hours ago (after hassling them for 3 days) which is listed below:

Sir/Madam,

We are pleased to report that we have scheduled you for an immigrant visa interview on 20-SEP-2006 08:00am. At the interview, a consular officer will determine whether you are qualified for a visa. If no ineligibilities are found, we will process the case for the issuance of visa.

Notification of this appointment was sent to you. This notification packet included important information about the required medical examination to be performed by an approved physician. The results of this examination, which take three working days to complete after the initial visit, must be presented by the applicant at the time of the interview. In case if you do not receive your appointment letter two weeks before your interview date, please contact Embassy’s information window number 14 or 15 on any working day at 2.00 P.M.

Thank you.
