Hey Guys,

The NVC wrote to me the other day, to confirm packet 3 will be sent to me in 3 weeks time. We have waited 8 months for our petition to be approved, so to make up a little time I would like to apply for my Police Report now, so I can send the completed packet back not too long after I receive it.

I've spent many hours finding out which forms to complete for my criminal history check, but I am not sure from how long ago it should go back till.

I called the Consular helpline this morning, and they didn't really know either, but said it should be a full criminal history check. I called the Police helpline at Empress House, and he told me they could do a criminal history check back till my date of birth (28 years ago) if I asked for it.

So I am really unsure how far back I should date my Police report form now, as I don't want it being rejected at the London Consular.

I would eally appreciate it if somebody who knows could tell me how far back I should date it.

Many Thanks,

Jim.

I believe it's from age 16.

To obtain a Police Certificate in the UK, go to your local police station and request a form called "Subject Access". Send send this with the ten pounds fee to the Data Protection Officer of the police force for the area you are resident in. This form is then sent by the police to Scotland Yard and the results are supplied to the individual requesting them within a statutory 40 day time limit. If you're waiting for your certificate try 0171-230-3751 to see what state it's at.

Passport and utility bill from memory.

It is 40 working days, so could be getting on for 9 weeks.

Hi There Jim.

You need to pop into your local police station.
Ask for a 'Subject Access' form.
You fill this in & post it off - with the £10 fee.

You need to list your previous addresses since the age of 16 (which can be quite a long list for us 'mature' applicants!)
You also need to include 2 forms of ID - which they post back to you.

It takes more-or-less the full 40 days to get the certificate back.
