Hey Guys!!
Just want to know if somebody can send me information about some travel agency that offers good prices on th tickets, yesterday I tried to buy my tkts ($1110) and the travel agent told me that the prices went up
$ 2028 via Lan Chile NYC-Lima leaving on Dec 18 and coming back on Jan 2.
Can you believe that?????????? I planned to go with my husband but spend $4000 just on tkts????
Hope to get some responses soon...
Hugs

Tickets to Peru are ridiculously expensive. My wife left last Tuesday to Lima for a 10 day visit and we paid from Miami $640.00. I used to pay around $380.00 a year ago. Thanks gas prices.
Try looking into leaving out of Miami to Lima on LAN or American and get separate tickets for the trip from New York to Miami. My quick search would put at around $1,300.00 total each. Still expensive, but better than the $2,000.00 your travel agent wants
A travel agency I have used in the past is www.abstravel.com
Good luck

prices have been fluctuating a lot recently. I too have seen the huge jump around that time unfortunately. I am looking at round trip tickets from DTW or CLE to LIM Dec30/31 with a return Jan7/8. Also need a matching flight from LIM to DTW/CLE on Jan7/8. Prices have gone up around 300$ per flight for NW/Continental, but AA has only jumped about 50 bucks.
Then again, they did the same thing about 3 months ago and then went back down again when I was looking at my tickets for the first of Sept.

We always buy them tkts, we call one of the office here in New York and there is a peruvian lady that always helps us to get amazing prices, but I think that this time we are just going to use the internet.

You should constantly check all carriers. Delta, LAN, AA, Continnental, AeroMexico, etc.
The prices for Christmas will be higher than any other part of the year. But try adjusting your departure and return dates. Look at flying out of another Airport. i.e. Miami vs Atlanta vs Newark vs JFK vs Washington vs DFW vs Houston etc.
Look into taking indirect flights, maybe a flight like Atlanta to Mexico City to Lima, or Miami to Quito to Lima, or Miami to Santiago to Lima. Also look into taking the overnight flights that leave out of Miami usually. They tend to run a lot cheaper. Also a lot of times the prices will drop within 28 days of the departure date. So you may want to buy your ticket later.
Although more expensive you could buy now fully refundable tickets, and then keep checking everyday for cheaper tickets--and when you see them, buy the cheaper ones and get your refund for the ones you buy now.

Not sure if this wil help but since you are in NYC call Avianca Air, see what it costs to fly to Bogota , www.avianca.com and then on to Peru from Bogota. Last summer I went to Bogota then wanted to visit friends in Buenos Aires, from here, Las Vegas, it was over $2200 RT. I flew to Bogota, &650 RT and then bought my tickets to BA for another $650 RT. Check it out, may work may not. Just need to find out what airlines fly out of Bogota and then on to Lima or whereever. I will say that my tix for this Christmas are double as well. Not so much based on fuel costs but remember it is summer there in our winter and also the holiday travel is always more expensive. Good luck.

Every other site I checked started at around $1100.00 for One Way....so I was thrilled to find a ticket for just $622.00!
I researched Travelocity, Expedia, Cheap Tickets, Hot Wire, and several others that specialized in international travel. It's pretty insane

This will sound backwards, but sometimes it is less expensive to get the round trip ticket. You might try to search it that way too.

I agree - RT flights are usually cheaper than one way (believe it or not).
Also, if the flight originates in Peru (not in the US) it is more expensive -- the Peruvian gov't puts a much larger tax on the tickets than the USGOV levies. This tax is in addition to the exit tax you must pay.
We use one of the consolidator travel agencies to buy our tickets: Costa Azul Travel or Mi Boleto Travel. We usually pay less than $800 MSP-LIM RT on Continental (via Houston). Sometimes we've paid as much as $900 but that was quite high for us. We've found them to be the best bet above the online sites, by far.
Key is having flexible dates and start way ahead of time: 6-8 months for the XMas season.
In Lima, FERTUR is a good agency and can sometimes give you a good price too. Ask for Yolanda.
My inlaws once got a great LIM-NYC fare via Wong (yes, the grocery store....).

Thanks for the suggestions
I actually did a search for Round Trip before I ever committed to a purchase. I researched for several weeks before settling for what I did. The option I found with Air-Savings was by far the best of any of search I performed.
I will use your recommendations when deciding who to use for purchasing tickets out of Lima....hopefully for 2!!!
