I was planning on renewing my British passport when I'm over in N.Ireland, but my question is can I travel with just my green card or do I need the passport as well to enter back into the United States?
Thanks,
Kat

You need your passport as well as the Greencard...
Why dont you renew your passport here in the states?
http://www.britainusa.com/sections/index_n...i=10080&d=1It only took 2 weeks for my new passport to be sent....

yep, you will most definitely need your passport to get back in the US.

What about getting a US passport...does Joel have to wait til he is a citizen to get that? Does he renew his Canadian passport indefinately? That's one thing we haven't thought about. Sorry if I've asked a stupid question.

he'll have to keep renewing his Canadian passport as long as he will be considered Canadian. Which is until he dies pretty much, unless he intends to renounce citizenship for some unfathomable reason.
He can only get a US passport once he's completed the citizenship applications and oath. Which is a few years off.
To enter into Canada, he'll use his Canadian passport, to enter the US, he'd use his US passport. For any other country he'd travel to, he can choose. My Aunt, who has 3 citizenships, usually uses her Canadian passport outside of North America, unless she's visiting the UK, then she uses her British passport.

Does anyone of you have any experience with renewing a passport from here? I found out that I can do it easly via the Atlanta Consulate. My only concern is, that they want to see my old passport to make it invalid ( I guess they're going to hole punch it). But: my passport contains my visa and my I-94. Is that a problem???
I wanted to get a new passport with my new family name! Also, I still have an old passport which is a non-biometric passport. The new passport will be biometric. And starting October, you need a biometric passport for entering the US. But with AP, does that matter?
Thanks a lot!

you can request that they return your old passport to you, so that you have the visa. When I got a new one, I needed the old one still so they just cut the corners off and then stamped "cancelled" inside on the ID page I think.
AP only tells them that USCIS knows you intended to leave the country, you will still need the passport to re-enter to prove ID and citizenship.
