My husband and I are tired of buying phone cars to call Morocco. Does anyone know of any good calling plans? He wants wireless, but I think a land line would be better. Any ideas?

IDT Globalphone (www.idt.net - i think) It's abt 18cents/min and pretty reliable. You can also print records from online if needed. good.gif

Nora, I don't know how you are getting 18cents a minute there! I wish I could find that!
http://www.idt.net/personal/intl/worldsaver/
tells me that:
for Morocco cell phone i have to pay this:

WorldSaver Everywhere 72.8¢ per minute
WorldSaver International 85.6¢ per minute
Basic International 103.5¢ per minute

I also went on VOIP.com that Jess recomended - 37 cents a minute to call a cell phone in Morocco. They do charge 26 cents but it has to be landline and my hubby only has a cell.

I'll try Skype which charges 27 cents or www.SaveOnPrepaid.com they charge 26 cents, don't know about the landline.

i use www.3u.net they give you an 800# and then dial the person's number in morocco. For morocco...i am getting $.31 a minute and some others i think are $.27 minute. I checked out idt.com as well firelion and i saw the same thing as $.72 a minute..didn't know where the $.18 was at..darn!! 3U also lets you view your bill and it updates it online every day. so i put myself on the budget so that if i know what im up to..then unfortunately i need to slow down on the calling to my baby...I hate that!! have a great day everyone!!!

Like Noura said, to Morocco, IDT Global Calling Card is the cheapest. Yes...it is a calling card, but you recharge online and can even set it up to automatically recharge once it falls to a certain level. Hicham can call from the States back to a cell in Morocco for 18 cents/minute (lots of 45 minute + phone calls now happen) and it is almost always a good connection (he is calling a cell and you know how they can be).

Here is the link again for y'all.

http://www.idt.net/personal/cards/gc/

I wish I had known of this when Hicham was still in Morocco. I had HUGE phone bills for triple the cost per minute.

http://www.idt.net/personal/wireless/intl.asp is the link for IDT - what I did was sign up, pre-paid w/ my credit/debit card and I just started making calls. They give you a toll free access #, you then enter your acct code, a pin #, and the number you're calling. When you get down to less than $10, it recharges. So, I never run out of min until I call and stop the recharge service. Check it out again.... it really is only 18cents to Morocco - cell phone or land line.

I have Optimum Online which gives me 500 minutes for $19.95 with an option to purchase an additional 500 international minutes after and if I use up the first 500 which I always do.

We are IDT users also.

I am not sure about Morocco but I know I use www.mychitchat.com to call Jordan on his cell and it is $.22.9 cents a minute. It keeps records and has a 800# and you can put numbers on speed dial so i can call from my work, home or cell and only have to press one number after I dail the 800#. and I recharge it online. Hope you get what you are needing cause I knwo I was using calling cards before I was helped by another member.
Michaela_Hassan
I use Vonage, 25 cents landline, 35 cents cell phone. I found some calling cards very cheap but in the end a rip off. Advertising certain minutes and then you dont get them after all.

This is what we use. He uses my account and calls me from his computer in the internet cafe in Egypt and it costs $.021 a minute. We no longer sit for hours in stupid chat. We spend it on the phone and its soooo much better. Beats cruddy voice chat by a mile and the rate allows us to talk all we want to. We talk an hour for a little over $1. Can't beat it.

I like the skypeout idea, but it leaves one tied to your computer - I like IDT b/cuz I can use it from any phone. I can talk to my love from the car if I want. That's been the one thing that's kept me from using skypeout. We do use skype on the computer for voice chat, it's much better quality than Yahoo. Just my opinion.

I use www.Starfone.net

The Morocco rate is .24 a minute to a land line. There is also discounts depending if you pay online and how much you spend. It is so convinient. For other rates and contact info visit the website.

One thig I'm learning right now: they put a "hold" on the money you put in to the card for 24 hours, so you can't use it right away. And of course they don't mention that anywhere during the signup. tongue.gif

Think I'll switch our direct dial LD to 3U. Power Net Global (our current LD service) has terrible connections to Morocco. We can hear them, they can't hear us; delay of 2-3 seconds; dropped calls, etc.

I did not find this to be the case... I was able to use the service right away. Just my experience, maybe, but it's been a good one.

I go through www.ekit.com when I phone David. But we skype, mostly.

I've never used skypeout but we have chatted via skype and it disconnects us like every 5 minutes or so. At first we were so psyched at the clarity of the webcam and the voice but then the disconnecting got old.

Just yesterday I put money on the card for Hicham and he was able to call less than a minute later. We had only one problem once, which was a computer glitch, and their customer service was awesome.

ive been using Skype and SkypeOut since my husband has been back in Algeria and the connection has been great recently (in the beginning it was horrible, but i think that was a fault in the internet connection at my old apartment). i can call my husband on his cell phone for about 15 cents a minute.
Mrs. Forgetful
Well My hubby and I decided that the phone card we buy gets us 12.5 cents a minute used straight thru so we are going to stick with it. We get 40 min for $5 but we also get the card at a discount for $4.50. which is like 9 cents a minute. Thanks for all the suggestions!
