Hi everyone,
I am about to start the rather daunting task of seeking employment. I'd love to hear from others how they found employment. Did you sign up to a website like monster.com, check out the newspapers or sign up with an agency? I am also wondering about resumes and applications here in the US. I worked for the govt. in Australia and have always applied for jobs that required you to address selection criteria, resulting in very long applications. I am told here that your resume shouldn't be over one page. Is this correct?
Anyway, I'm hoping to hear from others what they did to secure work and also about resumes and applications.
Thanks in advance.

Actually, websites like Monster, Hotjobs, Dice, etc. are pretty good if you have special skills. Otherwise, the Sunday paper of any big city is where you'll find lots of job ads. As for resumes, again, it depends what you do, how long you've been working, and what your experience is. There really is not fast rule for resume length anymore. Mine is 6 pages long and it helped me land a great job. A great cover letter always helps too. If you look at agencies, some are paid by the employer and some you pay for. Beware of the ones you pay for. They're not that good and are a waste of money. If you want more advice, I'll be glad to continue this discussioin via email. Just let me know.
Good luck,
Joel
