Hi, I live in Chicago, my fiancee lives in Liuzhou, China. When I go to visit her, should we get married and go to the Consulate in Guangzhou and try DCF. Is there a better way? I am just starting this process, and I have a choice. Is there a faster way? Thank you for your help, Mike and Zhen

Have you read the DCF Guide?
Have you read the GZ Field office page regarding I-130s?

Are you resident in the Guangzhou consular district?

I called the Guangzhou Consulate 2 years ago while living nearby about the DCF. They were familiar with the process, but explicit you must have Z visa and proof you live and work in China. ( I did not pursue it any further)
I note the Consular web page no longer mention the “United State Citizen days” they used to have where USC could come in and talk to Consulate official about visas near and dear to them. What a shame, that was a very good policy. Probably done away with when the Bangkok District office found out about it.

this is Mike again, Zhen thinks that I can get a Z Visa, a job, and a resident permit quickly when I go to china to visit her. Is there a minimum time that you must be a resident? Is it possible that I could get the necessary documents and file DCF before I return to USA. would I have to wait for her? Would it be faster? Should we just get engaged in china and start K1 Visa? There is so many questions, but it seems that there are many possibilities and I would not want to miss out because I am to lazy to get the answers. thanks, Mike and Zhen

Mike,

I am considering the same thing, i am now living in Nanning, China with my girlfriend and want to get married and come back to the US. I read that you have to get the place of work to offer you a letter of work intent to get a Z visa. I currently have a 90 day tourist visa that is running out! :-)
I am going to the local visa office to ask about it today, i will let you know, what i have to do to get a work visa. I intend to say that I will be tutoring my friends here in English.
