Two quick questions:

1. Can a step father (of the sponsor) that lives in the same household as the sponsor be a co-sponsor for the I-864A

2. If the sponsor is working in the UK, do you answer the employment section of the I-864 as unemployed ?

Thanks in advance !!

lquin,

1. Where do you see the word "co-sponsor" (except in these forums?) Read the I-864 and the I-864A - you are talking about a Household Member.

2. I wouldn't. But I would make clear whether or not the current employment will continue after returning to the USA - and if it will not I would line have a Joint Sponsor or Household Member signed up.

On the I-864 is only says parents... I was just looking for clarification.

Where the I-864A is concerned it is not for use by a joint sponsor, but by a household member who's income will be included on the sponsors I-864. The I-864A is a contract between Household Member and Sponsor. A joint sponsor will complete their own I-864 and does not have to be a household member but it can be.

sorry yes I realised this I meant Household member..

lquin,

A stepparent is not a parent?

To be sure, while the new I-864 and it's instructions are an improvement in many ways, the old I-864 instructions were in some ways more clear in identifying a relative as by birth, marriage, or adoption.
