Checked BaggageEconomy Class Free Baggage Acceptance[list]
[*]2 Checked Bags: Maximum 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (157 cm)

Hey Paul and Kath, just wanted to add a comment about the Continental baggage limits, etc having just flown with them. Although you get to take 2 suitcases 32kg on international flights...yeah i got a shock when i checked in with continental to fly to CO and found out the limit was 23kgs per suitcase. Anyway, i had to pay for the extra weight but it wasn't too bad. They charge $25 USD per suitcase. I think it was worth it to be able to bring so much stuff with me.

Thanks again everyone for your kind thoughts...I can only say that I am so so happy to be in the USA with my hunny! Hey it's great to see so many newbies in here too!!! Would be nice to get a list going of aussies leaving for the USA and approx when so we can keep track now there is so many of us.

Well, I got my vegimite that my work gave me in my farewell present confiscated at customs... mad.gif apparently it was too big so I bought a tube duty free just before I left..mind you getting decent bread to spread it on is proving difficult. Have been eating sourdough i think that's the closest to aussie bread.

Well...I guess I will be on here quite a bit for awhile...my body clock is so out of wack. wacko.gif

Good luck with starting work tomorrow Kath....I think you will have a great time! star_smile.gif

Well I better go and get this wedding organised.... biggrin.gif

Take care

Hey there fellow Aussies,

Has anyone been examined by Dr Okraglik and can share their experience?

I just made an appointment with him as the only other doctor in Melbourne was busy until May 20. I couldn't believe that I had to pay a $100 deposit over the phone for my appoinment!!

Also, my case has was fowarded to SYD yesterday. When will they send me the paperwork as my medical and fingerprint check are within the next 14 days?

Thanks everyone!

Kath

Hi Kath,

Thanks for the reply!

All up, it was just under $300 for the medical. It was either $290 or $299, I called from California and the line kept breaking up.

I am currently in California with my husband and our son but will be flying back to MEL next week. sad.gif

I was hoping for an interview in the first half of June, but I am worried they will be overly busy trying to get all visa related work completed before they shut down for the APEC meeting.
Kath
hi hollywood
yw ...
i was just looking at hampsters posts for you and i saw he answered your other thread about the medical giving you his timeline...

well fingers crossed you get your interview in june ...

good luck and safe journey home...

bugga forgot about the APEC meeting in September....

Kath
hi sharyna yeah always something to put a bump in the road damm meetings ... lol

hollywood i reckon you just might get everything in the mail by the time you have your appointment ...they need your case number ...it is put on your medical forms mate... dont know if you have read about it or not.. but if you havent already done so .. get some blood tests to see what you are ammuned to ...get it done by your local doctor and put on medicare.. it saves heaps of money for you .. but dont forget to take the results to the medical and the receipts off the pathologist so the doctor can enter it into the vaccination sheet for you..

kath
sharyna
so we can get blood tests done by our local GP?....
anything else we should get done prior to that medical test?...

is the police check also compulsory and needed? because if i need to get one done i might as well start now...

also do we need to get vaccinations done? i think my last shot was a Hep C shot.....

sorry if its written somewhere i know i've missed it.

Hi Sharyna,

Yes you can get blood tests done by your local G.P.
Just ask him to do a complete bloodwork up and,
ask him to do Immunization checks.
ask for REUSULTS FOR MMR = MEASLES , MUMPS + RUBELLA
HIV , SYPHILIS , TB ,
Basically ask him to check immunities for anything needed as above.
my bloodwork came back and it was 8 pages.. omg.
they checked my blood group (ask for that as well)
my cholesterol level, prostate check as well...
so what I am saying is ask your G.P. for a full blood work,
get him to take a extra vial of blood to do the complete check.
The only Vacination I needed was for Tetnus which I had,
August last year 06.
Take Medicare card and as Kath mentioned it's cheaper with it.
Results will take prolly a week to recieve.
Make a appointment say.. 10 days after bloodwork taken,
to get him to give you the printed out results.
And if any Vaccinations are needed might as well get him/her to do it.

Wow, things have been busy today LOL. Everyone is so excited *waves to everyone*

MEDICAL REPORT SENT DIRECTLY TO CONSULATE UPDATE (remember Kath how I said that the doctor sent my medical report directly to the consulate and you said you hadn't heard of this happening?) Well, I emailed the consulate to ask them if they had received the results and it was all in order. I also asked if I should also bring along the documents that I did pick up from Dr Waks that he didn't send to the consulate...

Their reply was "Your medical report has been received. You should bring in the copies of the documents you have that you collected from Dr. Waks office." good.gif

I can only guess that this is a new procedure to make it impossible for applicants to change/forge their medical results. *shrug*

Sharyna- I'm from Sydney too, it only took around 10 days for me to get my police certificate back after I got my prints done, so rest assured you won't be waiting for it as long as you will for your NOA2 smile.gif

Also, I went to Dr Waks, I don't know about the other doctor in Sydney (obviously) but Dr Waks was really nice and made things really easy. If you go to him wear walking shoes cos he sends you out the door, up a hill about 4 or 5 blocks for the x-ray and blood test wink.gif Dr Waks is right across from Wynyard Station too.

Mistake confession for the groups amusement....

I didn't take anything with my case number written on it to my medical, so when the good doctor asked for it, I went all shades of pink, freaked out and had to confess that I didn't have it! Its okay, says the doc, just call me later and give it to me... only trouble was, I organised the medical on the same day that I was travelling up the coast for a week! I wasn't going back home for 8 days. Fortunately, I am visa-obsessed and knew *exactly* where the number was and how to get it. I gave my trusty little sister a call as I walked back from the x-ray and blood test.
"Please go upstairs, go to my desk, under my desk is my filing cabinet, open the bottom draw, find the yellow file marked VISA, inside you will find a blue folder with plastic sleeves, open it to the very last page. At the bottom of the page there is my name and case number, please read me the case number." Easy as that. I enjoyed reading it back to her over the phone too... "Sierra, Yankee, Delta, # # # # # # # #, over and out sis."

Moral of the story? Take your case number with you to your medical appointment wink.gif biggrin.gif

hampster
whistling.gif nope not saying a word Jess unsure.gif blush.gif

Anyway

Just remember as well...
If your local Doctor takes Blood for the blood test for medical..
remember to have him sign and date every page of the results.
And as well get him to do a letter ( on his letterhead),
stating that the said results are from you for your USA MEDICAL.

When you recieve the brown envelope from the Consulate,
with all the information and your Interview date..
Look carefully at the medical paperwork..
there is a page where the USA Doctor signs,
and the Xray Tech signs,
and the person taking the blood signs as well.
If your local Doctor is taking the blood
remember to have him/her sign,'
and date it for when the blood was taken.

He /She needs to sign and date it as well
as put his credentials next to his signature.. yes.gif .
Hope that helps.

Ok Cheers

Paul star_smile.gif

hampster
When I was organising my things for my interview,
Elle was kind enough to send me the list on how the,
Consulate likes things in order.. re Paperwrok when you have Interview.

this is what the Consulate sent me (I had an CR1 interview):
  1. One photograph
  2. Valid passport
  3. Visa Screen Cert - for healthcare workers - prolly N/A for you
  4. Original Birth Cert and one photocopy (I had mine certified, went to the local police station and asked -- thanks for the tip on that 1 Lyndel!)
  5. For minor childre - court order verification sole custody to immigrating parent...Im guessing N/A for you too?
  6. Original Adoption decree or evidence of name change when applicaple, original and one photocopy
  7. Original Divorce Cert and one photocopy
  8. Original Marriage Cert and one photocopy
  9. Original Police Cert and one photopcy
  10. Original Court Records if applicaple and one photocopy of each
  11. Original Military Record if applicable and one photocopy of each
  12. Evidece of financial support - I-864
It didnt state where the medical was to go,
so I just put mine at the end and had no problem with it.
I gave them the original, I made copies for myself and one to hand in just in case.
They did keep the original though (it was that booklet you gave to the doc).

Hope that helps any up and coming with their Interview

Cheers

For anyone who might need information re Medical and Immunizations.

Was taken from my Medical paperwork supplied by Dr Miller's
Receptionist, Joan she is a very lovely lady and very very helpful.

Vaccination Requirements

In general, applicants for immigrant visas are required to have all of the following vaccinations:

  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Rubella
  • Polio
  • Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
  • Pertussis
  • Influenza type B
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
  • Pneumococcal
Bring your vaccination records to the immigrant visa medical examination, if you have them. The <A href="http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/glossary/glossary_1363.html#p">panel physician decides which vaccinations you will need, appropriate to your age, medical condition and medical history.

Dear Visa Applicant,

Medical Examination Procedures ‑ American Visa

** PLEASE READ THIS **

The Consular requirements can seem complicated, but if you follow these instructions exactly, the procedures will be easy.
LEAVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME!

  • Your MEDICAL EXAMINATION INSTRUCTION LETTER,
  • which you have received from the American Consulate.

  • Applicant to complete this section.

to arrange a time to bring all the above items
to the following office address:

You will there be given request forms for a chest x‑ray and blood test.
If you are over the age of 14 you must undergo
a chest x-ray and a blood test for HIV and syphilis.
The results of these tests are later forwarded to Dr Miller
for review on the day of your physical examination.
Be aware that they take up to a week to be received by Dr Miller.

You must have certain immunisations - depending on your age -
done or renewed, unless you bring written evidence
of past immunisation with your documents.
If you believe you are immune but don’t have written evidence,

to prove immunity instead.
You will have to pick up a special lab. Request
from Joan in that case.

Dr David Miller

183 Tynte Street, North Adelaide – 1st floor, suite 8

No other doctor in S.A. is authorised to perform this examination.
Generally an appointment will be available within two to three weeks.

STEP SEVEN:

Keep the appointment. Bring your PASSPORT and all documents.
You must bring cash to pay the standard fee
for the consultation, as follows:

$70 + $7 GST = $77.00 total (each child under 15 years)

FEES MUST BE PAID AT THE TIME OF THE EXAMINATION
IN CASH ONLY;

STRICTLY NO CREDIT CARDS, EFTPOS OR CHEQUES.

Breathe a sigh of relief. That’s all.

Oh, in case this helps anyone....

For the K-1 Visa the final checklist and order is slightly different to the one Paul (Hamster) provided for his CR1 interview.

Also for the SYDNEY people... Dr Waks and the x-ray and blood test people all take cash, cheque (presumably) or credit. I used my VISA card for all three with no problem.

Hi Everyone,

I am a bit panicked at the moment. I just received the letter with my interview date for 11 May (Friday). However, my medical check and blood test is not to be done until 1 May - the earliest i could get it and i booked it 3 weeks ago. Will i get my blood test results too late??

Hey Jo,

I had my medical on a Wednesday and I was called the following Thursday to say that they were ready. HOWEVER, there is no guarantee that it will be fast enough for you. I would do one or more of the following.

1) Change you consulate appointment ASAP. The sooner you do the sooner you'll relieve your stress and get a little breathing space. I shouldn't think that changing the appointment would be too hard, but the earlier you do it the earlier the new appointment will be.

2) Call the doctor and ask him/her for a good estimate of when your results will be ready. The only results that take some time are the blood test results. Tell him/her when your interview date is and ask the doctor frankly whether 10 days is or isn't long enough for the results to be returned to you.

3) Breathe

Good luck!

EDIT: The consulate is pretty good with the email in my limited experience, if you wanted to change interview date. I emailed the consulate on the evening of (public holiday) yesterday and received a reply midday today.

I'd be cool if we had one of these... http://www.frappr.com/ I don't know how it'd work exactly, but it'd be cool.

Kath: I'm in favour of some kind of.... database type thing with basic information on dates, locations etc.... would http://www.frappr.com/ help?

Thank you for making an appointment with us for your US visa examination on ……………….... at ………… Our building is between Queen and William Street.

Fees

This is to confirm that the fee for this examination is $170 per adult and for a child under the age of fifteen it is $90 (these fees include GST). This needs to be paid in cash or by cheque on the day of the examination. You will also be sent for an X-ray and blood tests to 20 Collins Street, Melbourne on the same day. The X-ray will cost $75 and the blood tests $60.35. The X-rays and blood tests may be paid for by cheques, bankcard or with the exact change. These fees are not refundable by Medicare.

Could you please bring the following with you to the examination:
Your current passport
One passport sized photograph
The medical forms from the consulate – please do not fill out yourself
The form that has our phone number and address on it
Your case number, if you have one
Any immunization records you have. If you cannot obtain any records, Dr Poppenbeek will go through the form with you during the consultation and advise you whether you need to get any booster shots. You will have these done after this consultation. These can be done by any General Practitioner.

As there are a number of forms to fill out when you arrive, please arrive about ten minutes early for your consultation. Allow approximately two hours for the examination and having the X-ray and blood tests. Note that if you arrive late to your appointment it will probably have to be rescheduled.

The examination consists of a general medical checkup of your heart, lungs, blood pressure, reflexes, eyes and external genitalia. Please discuss with the doctor if you have any concerns about this at the start of the consultation.

Collecting your documents

It takes about 3 ‑ 4 working days for us to receive your X-ray and blood tests results. Please phone us at the end of this period to arrange a time for you to collect them.

If you have any queries, please phone us on the above number or email us at reception@poppenbeek.com.au

Also, is it possible to email Sydney next week and ask for my case number so I have it with me at my medical?

Awe Hammy Thank you so much! I e-mailed that entire post to David on the medical requirements. I am sure that will help him greatly! Thank you!

Hi Hampster,

Why did you have to take Evidence of financial support - I-864 with you to your interview? I can't see it on my list that sent me with the DS-230 part 1.

QUOTE(hampster @ Apr 26 2007, 05:28 AM) *

Cheers

Paul

p.s Kath, How is Mum Doing these days?
Hopefully better by now good.gif rose.gif

sharyna
i was just going to ask about that... i thought that the other person - the one that wants you to go over to their country put that evidence in when they requested it and that you didnt need it?
Kath
hi ya all
ok had a go at doing that map .. will you click on the link below and see if you can add yourself ..or anyone else for that matter to see if it works. if it doesnt well i will work something else out.. the data base side of things of dates and such will have to be done manually because i dont think this can be added to the website...

so will do a search on all of you if you dont mind who is waiting and what for and what date you got your approvals and interview dates..
hi hollywood..you could give NVC a phone call to ask about your case number would be cheaper than phoning sydney..the number will be on the letter that you should of received stating it has been sent to sydney consulate.

sharyna ... your right about the fiancial side of things coming from the petitioner...but when you go for your interview the orginal filled out and signed by your fiance/spouse is to be with you at the interview so therefore that is why it is in hampster's list of what to take to the interview..he didnt take any of his own finacial details to his interview..only his wife's eg. tax transcripts, W2's, bank statements and employer letter

k1 and k3 =I-134 affidavit of support
cr1 =I-184 affidavit of support

hi rings how you doing mate
whooo hoo for the 10 days to go quickly...

hi hammy yeah mum is doing just fine thanks mate...

well i did my volunteering today..was great.. counting out pills sticking on the labels serving customers .. using the cash register (which i thought i would be scared stiff of but wasnt) general tidying up when nothing to do ...was great i so enjoyed it...the pharmacist asked if i had worked in a chemist before ...lol the only downer was walking in the rain to get home lol and catching up on all my emails from VJ lol
so now i am offically out amongst the yanks lol

take care
kath

Hi Sharyna smile.gif Keep in mind that you're going for the K-1 interview not the CR1 interview like Paul. You don't have to deal with the I-864 form at all. Having said that, you do have to have an affidavit of support and supporting documentation from your American Citizen fiance, your form is called I-134. Download it here

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-134.pdf

I've also uploaded the two page instruction sheet that came in the package along with the I-134 for you to view *as a guide only*. The information pertaining to the K-1 Visa is on page 2 (the second download). As soon as I received the I-134 and instruction sheet I put it in the mail and sent it to my US fiance so that he could fill it out, collect the documents he needed, get things notorized and send it back to me ASAP.
sharyna
he mailed me all copies or the originals of what he sent to USCIS.... theyre at home...

we're following this.... which i found here on this site (thankyou!)

honestly it all seems so daunting! and its like my brain is just to overloaded....

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).
2. Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.
3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).
4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is notarized (by a US Notary Public), with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.
5. You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.
6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.
7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

Kath
there ya go sharnya
number 4 and 5 is related to the U.S. citz mate....your doing fine just dont forget to relax about it all.. i know how you feel.. when doing the packet 3 i thought omg where do i start ..but i sat back looked at what had to be done and did it one piece at a time and when one thing was completed i put it aside and when i finished it all .checked it double checked it and sent in the readiness forms to sydney and all went well..dont overload too much mate you will get a headache ...if your stressin over it put it aside for an hour or so and go back to it take your time...

kath

Sharyna: Don't stress too much, its not too hard, just takes a lot of work, it pays to be methodical biggrin.gif
One small thing that you should note Sharyna, to make it a little MORE difficult, all the consulates in the world seem to like things a little differently, and have a slightly different list of requirements. For example, the Sydney consulate doesn't ask to see the NOA2. Nor does it ask you to bring a whole copy of the I-129f stuff (you'll need the evidence of relationship though). What I'm saying is, don't stress too much, once you receive Package 3 everything you need will become clear and you'll see what the Sydney consulate requires. smile.gif

biggrin.gif Good luck mate!
sharyna
thankyou both!!
funny thing is - my boy is like all cool, calm and collected lol.....

seriously thankyou for your support..
Kath
lol sharyna course he would be calm cool and collected he has done his part lol...i chose to scan my stuff and send them to robbie and let him check it with me lol then he knew what was going on with what i had to do lol ..

Hi guys, good news... the notorized tax stuff arrived today... remember I was saying that I was expecting it from Tony? Anyway... another little discovery was made... regular mail and priority mail take the same amount of time to arrive, despite paying a small fortune (in my view) for the latter. Grrr...

Hey guys update! smile.gif
Yesterday Corey got Packet 4 and we got our interview date!!! Woot.
His interview is in a....week. It's scheduled for the 4th of May!
I thought they give you like a month's notice?!
But anyways, he won't be able to make that one so he's rescheduled to the 30th of May.

I don't know why we only got barely a week's notice of the interview date. We only sent out our checklist like a week before lol. I saw other people post their interview dates before we received packet 4 and theirs were for around the end of May as well. I think the consulate wants to get rid of our case, I email them too much wink.gif haha!

But yay! We have an interview date!
He's going to the doctor's on Tuesday for his medical as well. Things are about to get rollinggggggg!
