Thanks a million Hammy, I will check it out.

What I wanted to do was take one extra bag as excess luggage so that I have what i need to dress professionally when i get there and then send the rest via shipping cause it's stuff that I won't need for awhile.

Jake and I are checking out fly fishing ideas, how cool is that. Can't wait to get to colorado and try it!

Hey Paul, awesome, thank you I will tell Jake to check out the link as well.

Meanwhile i will ensure i have a supply of choccies in case we can't catch a fishy for dinner (none of that hershey crap though, no offence to any americans on here but cadbury choc is so so good! wink.gif )

I grew up at Tathra/Merimbula on the south east coast so am traditionally a salt water fisherwoman so this fly fishing is new to me, I am just hoping not to get water in my waders or to hook my ear or Jake's cause i am completely unco! Think this will test the marriage!! laughing.gif I keep telling Jake that he has to kiss the fish before he throws them back to which he says "Ewwww!!" what a wuss! laughing.gif Hope he doesn't read that....nuh i tell him when he's wussy! tongue_ss.gif

Hey Serendip, awesome, a road trip coast to coast that would be a lot of fun. Yeah, we are starting to make plans now and talk dreams etc, (like I want two alpacas in the back yard if we get a farm lol) it helps keep you focussed when things get a bit tough. We started our Visa Journey last May so it's been a long haul. Now I just can't wait, we are also planning a weekend in Vegas and camping up the Rockies when the weather warms up! It's Jake's birthday just after I arrive so I am thinking to make an aussie BBQ for him.

If anyone wants to make suggestions of what is typically aussie that we can have it would be much appreciated! Do we really have traditional aussie BBQ food besides maybe damper or beetroot?

I also told Jake not to buy too much in groceries before I come over because I love grocery shopping over there. I read all the packs, become fascinated with thingys like spray-on cheese and runover people with my trolley blush.gif (cause they push their trolleys on the same side as they drive). It's great fun!

Hammy, thank you for that eddiebauer link, will check it out...I have to say poor fish being kissed by Jake! laughing.gif I think he will be too chicken though. lol Now how many sleeps till your interview??? Most important thing to remember is all the papers in the order as the consulate requests. You'll be just fine though! yes.gif

The LLBean site was good but jeeze waders are expensive and the fishing rods even more expensive. Choccy eating is a much more economical hobby! devil.gif

Oh and KATH you need to get of that internet and get some sleep, sis! lmao tongue.gif

Aww, yeah we've done that dream talking sorta stuff lately too. We want a little maltese cross shitzu. I love cute little dogs. I'm usually scared of dogs, but I think I can handle little 5kg dogs hah.

We definitely want to stop by Vegas on our roadtrip and take a day hiking the grand canyon. That should be so much fun.

One thing I know mostly all aussies love is lamb! You should definitely have some lamb on that barbie. When corey was over about a month ago, he was completely bummed that Americans aren't as fond of lamb as aussies are. Whenever we went to a restaurant that had lamb (very few) that was his choice of meal without even looking at other things. So maybe that could be an option for something aussie.

Pavlovas are pretty aussie too aren't they? I've never seen a pavlova here in the states.

Man lol it's already almost 3am and here I am still surfing these threads and I have class later today.
Kath

I already want to start packing!!!

OOH daydreams are good...Eric and I were doing online furniture shopping today lol. I love dogs, all kinds. My parents have SIX dogs (not a typo - yes SIX). They are little mixed terriers. Eric has a half lab-half german sheppard girl, and she is just so lovable. I cant wait until we are a family! I just cant wait to nest!

Sere - Love the coast to coast roapd trip idea. I love road trips. Last time I was in the States, we drove down to Luray Caverns in Virginia - and it was just so much fun looking around at all these places I never been to.

OH and guess what?? Eric will be flying here in May!! He got time off and will be here for 2 whole weeks! Then soon after, I'll be joining my wonderful hubby.

Lamb and pavlova are pretty aussie! What else can ya cook for him Lyndel..hmm..ship some lamingtons? tongue.gif

I thought I was the only one who loved grocery shopping lol. Everytime his mom goes grocery shopping, I bolt to the car! Thought I like doing it here too, especially with Eric. I love doing "normal couple" stuff like that and cooking.

Paul -- its been said before, but it really the interview really is as easy as having paperwork in order! Goodluck!

Hope every1 is goood!

Hey everybody... Wifey arrived last night here in Pensacola, FL. The whole thing at the LAX POE went great... except the first lady my wife encountered was being a b!tch and someone saw and took her envelope from her and got her through quick, the other lady apparently has issues.

Anyway, it's a beautiful day in Florida.

AWESOME! Welcome to the US Stephanie! What happened with the first woman? Did someone notice and then take over the processing? Damn some of these people. I am going to try and fly out to meet my wife at the POE (most likely LAX) when the time comes. Flying to Australia has it's perks. I didn't realize I accrued enough miles to do 2 or 3 coast to coast flights for $10.

Hehe, yeah I figure it'd be a GREAT way for Corey to be introduced to the US. What better way than spending a month driving from VA to California hehe. Man, I live in Virginia and I still haven't gone to the Luray Caverns. Well I remember going to a cavern when I was little but I don't remember much so it doesn't count lol. I'm going to add that to our trip smile.gif

I also love doing normal couple stuff too!! I use to be spoiled he'd cook me lunch on the barbie every tuesday when I was living with Corey for 6 months in Melb. ;D

Wonderful news David and Stephanie!!! Yay!!!! kicking.gif good.gif

Hey Serendip, great that you heard something! ....see I told you it would be soon. But just remember it is truelly ok to vent in here. I think all of us have done it at some stage! wacko.gif

What a great day all round....I am waiting for someone to come and look at my car tonight...cross your fingers that it sells.

I do have a quick question about superannuation... I found out that you can get your personal contributions paid out but not your employers that's with the PSS. I am thinking this will help us a bit. Is this true? I am happy for my super to sit there but would be nice to have the little bit that i have contributed....your thoughts?? blink.gif

Elle
How did you & Corey meet? Thats great that the Consulate has received the packet...you are truly on your way to being together! Yeah Luray Caverns was pretty neat. We were going to do Skyline drive too. I members when we drove from LA - Vegas...had to stop and just stare at the stars cuz they were SO bright and plentiful, and looked like you can just reach and grab em cuz there were no light pollution -- i loved it. So thats something else you could add.

Cooking...yes thats def not my forte lol. I have gotten better at it, but Eric does most of the cooking. I'm just the dishwasher whistling.gif

Congrats Dave & Steph!! Good to hear POE went smooth, apart from the first officer. Would love to hear what happened since LAX would be my POE too.

Hope you sell your car Lyndel!! I'm going to call my super 2moz, and hopefully I can get some if not all of my super.
girlfrmoz
Elle, I hope you can get your super...I couldn't get mine except for my own contributions but that may just be the Public Service. Would be really interested to know how you go. Good luck!

Kath are you still on the internet??? laughing.gif What time is it there??? tongue.gif

I have another questions for you all.....Jake doesn't have much stuff for our apartment because he lives on base and I really don't want to use his funky cutlery (flatwear - USA translation) that has been in storage for +3years right? Now I can send my cutlery via mail all safely wrapped in bubble wrap but I read up on Australia Post and you are not allowed to send weapons...would you classify cutlery as weapons? I asked at the Post Office today and they were unsure and said it may get confiscated because it will have knives even though they are blunt ended. I don't want that to happen as my stuff is expensive and my mum brought it for my 21st. Anyone got any ideas who I could contact and ask, maybe UPS??
Kath
Senders should determine import restrictions from United States of America authorities before posting:
hi ya lyndel...
had a look on australia post website...these are the restrictions to go to the states....
Alcoholic beverages
Animals and animal products
Hides
Pharmaceutical products
Skins
Tobacco and tobacco products
Vegetable and other plant products
Weapons
Wool.

what i would do is say what it is in the box and also state its a wedding gift place all each set flat in the box side by side with the knives on top so when its x rayed they can see what they are clearly...or do the same and put them on the top of your suitcase......

and yes you know i am on the net lol geeez its a bad habit i know...lol..talkin to my daughter tellin her ..her gran is in hosp...

Well we've realised that the cheque was processed in California so we're not sure what's going on, why it's been sent there or what happens next as we still haven't recieved the NOA1..?!?!? wacko.gif ranting33va.gif protest6wz.gif The only thing I can think of is that because we didn't have a cover letter they've assumed it was a K-3 Visa petition.....??? hi ya pris

i took a look at the following link..im thinking i might be wrong..they are sending it to another service centre cos they dont process them in nebraska...that is your local office though...

take a look..there is no I-130 for the processing times

nebraska process times

another reason they transfer petitions is because of backlog at that office...

for my AOS i was sent to California because of the backlog at cleveland ....

found out last night that my mum was in hosp getting a big thing taken off her face..it was cancerous but from what my bro said they got it all an shouldnt be back..she comes home tonight..so i was on the net all night well early hours of our morning trying to call my sis with no luck and talkin to my bro and daughter and my son on msn..

was funny i was looking round for my phone card rang me mum she wasnt home (derr now i know why) and so i thought i would try to send my sis a sms cos 2 days ago it didnt work.. i get a message back that she is in hosp..then i ring my bro and he said i was just about to ring you...so i said go on msn its cheaper for us then my daughter signed in told her..then my son did too so we all got to chat and let um know in one hit...

lol sorry on a lighter note. im listening to an australian cd i made for robert one year..its quite funny aussie songs and termanology of slang...lol anyone want a copy let me know will post it to ya..

another reason they transfer petitions is because of backlog at that office...
for my AOS i was sent to California because of the backlog at cleveland ....
found out last night that my mum was in hosp getting a big thing taken off her face..it was cancerous but from what my bro said they got it all an shouldnt be back..she comes home tonight..so i was on the net all night well early hours of our morning trying to call my sis with no luck and talkin to my bro and daughter and my son on msn..
was funny i was looking round for my phone card rang me mum she wasnt home (derr now i know why) and so i thought i would try to send my sis a sms cos 2 days ago it didnt work.. i get a message back that she is in hosp..then i ring my bro and he said i was just about to ring you...so i said go on msn its cheaper for us then my daughter signed in told her..then my son did too so we all got to chat and let um know in one hit...
lol sorry on a lighter note. im listening to an australian cd i made for robert one year..its quite funny aussie songs and termanology of slang...lol anyone want a copy let me know will post it to ya..
take care

Hmm...that link didn't work for me but thanks anyway Kath, have just been informed in another string that all family-based visas are now being handled at CSC, so there you go...lol.. blink.gif

We are just now investigating the back of the cheque for the details to go online to check the status that will hopefully shed some light on the situation. Apparantly recieving the NOA1 isn't that necessary..I just hope our progress isn't being help up that's all, if we're on our way for a NOA2 then I'll happily wait...it's the not knowing what's going on that's the frustrating thing..

Soz to hear your mum's in hospital..hopefully as you say she's all clear now. You hear so much of it hear lately aye. My aunt's had skin cancer removed; my nanna's brother; it's almost enough to keep you out of the sun permanently..

Poi_n_J
Ok, soz about all the drama guys....found our reciept number on the back of the cheque and learnt that our petition was recieved February 28..!! dancin5hr.gif

That was good news only they said they sent us an NOA1 but we haven't recieved it so now I'm worried that they have confused our address somehow and will send the NOA2 to wherever they've sent the NOA1.....??!! Dear oh dear.... wacko.gif blink.gif

FYI: They are currently processing I-130s at CSC from September 13, 2006.

Hello everyone!

I hope all is in good spirits me I am just tired... I did send a email last night to the Sydney/Embassy Consulate to see if our petition was received and received a response that his packet 3 should be mailed off tomorrow. Which is nice. I sent him a text to let him know. He has this government job and they are real picky about him using his cell phone at work

I miss him terribly. Seems like forever since I have seen him and then yet it doesnt. A weird thing.

Wish everyone luck in their immigration process!

Well.. we're pretty young, I'm 22 and he's 21. But we met in Dec 2002. I use to be really into online computer games (geek I know) and I use to game all the time with his brother. We were very good friends and we use to chat on MSN Messenger when we weren't in game. His brother (Corey) randomly saw on his brother's buddylist window my name and added me to his list. I accepted the request. And from there we talked pretty much everyday, and if we didn't we'd email each other and so forth. We just kept talking and talking and found out that we had a lot of things in common. So I really wanted to meet him but didn't want to put off school to meet him. I chose to do a study abroad program in Melbourne. I stayed there going to school for a semester.
I paid for a dormitory unit, but never stayed there! I seriously only stayed in the room like 3x. His family was so inviting that I just didn't want to leave their house and stay in the dorms with people I didn't know well. (I'm not too social, very shy person hehe). But his family took me in almost as if I was part of the family already and it was so cool.
Then I had to leave but I visited again last June-August 2006. And then he came to visit me for 2 1/2 months from Dec'06 - Late Feb 07. And it was his trip here that made us really want to be together all the time. So we filed our K-1 and from there it's history smile.gif

So it was like fate that we met! I never had any contact with him before and he randomly chooses to put me in his messenger list.. haha it's a bit corny.. but its cute to me biggrin.gif

But I'm sure u didn't want my whole life story.

Is Skyline Drive a sky diving place? I want to do that too but I'm super scared and probably never will. I can't believe you got to actually see the stars!! That's amazing. It's sad that it's such a huge thing when you can see stars. We definitely have tooo much light pollution. I will definitely check that out on the trip. That's something I've missed doing since I was little!!

You shouldn't be the dishwasher! Make him buy you an automatic dishwasher heheh! I would never do the dishes.. it's so blah.

I hope everyone is doing well! And that everyone is going along in the process speedily!

Hi ALL!

Sorry I have been MIA the past few days..have been extremely stressed and drained the past few days...going to the AFP,having my medical, blood tests, x-rays and gathering everything..as well as booking my flight to the U.S!!! I know I shouldn't have ...because I haven't had my interview yet (April 12th)...but I felt I really needed to..I know there's a risk in that...but I am hoping all runs smoothly at the interview.

Just thought I'd give you guys a little update and goodluck to all everyone, whatever process you're going through smile.gif

Kath, sorry to hear your Mum is sick. I hope she recovers well and quickly from the surgery. My stepfather gets skin cancers alot but not as big as that. He usually gets them iced off. I am sure your Mum will be fine. rose.gif heart.gif

Hi Moonie, hang in there. I think you have gone through the worst of it now. It's tough doing the medical, police check and all the forms and then having to wait to see if it's ok. I remember it stressed me to the max. Just think, only the interview to go now. It gets easier once packet 3 is in. Sending you good vibes for a speedy approval! star_smile.gif

Well I think my car is sold...finally. A girl frm work looked at it last night and fell in love with it. She loves Hondas too so I am happy. Her boyfriend and a mechanic are coming to look at it tonight and if they are happy it will go to it's new home this week. It's weird I am happy and sad all at once....all part of this new life we are all working towards I guess.

Also I went to a specialist today and found out I have to have day surgery tomorrow...grrrr. It's so fast the Dr discovered a lump on my tongue that has to be removed....OUCH!!! The doctor thinks it is harmless but wants to remove it jsut in case. I just keep thinking OUCH! I am sure all will be ok and luckily they are putting me under so I won't know about it until it wears off...OUCH! Best part is I get a week off work, worst part is nothing but mashed food for 5 days! Lucky i don't have to talk on here or you will all be laughing at me when I come home talking funny! tongue.gif So I am warning you in advance that I will be under the influence of an anesthetic tomorrow so please forgive me if I post anything silly! laughing.gif

Girlfromoz, I hope you the best for that day surgery! It sounds..painful sorry sad.gif But at least you won't have any problems with it in the future if it was a bad lump.

Goodluck hun!!
Elle
Kath - hope your mum has a speedy recovery!
Lyndel - goodluck w/ the surgery! And good news about the car!

Paul - this is what the Consulate sent me (I had an IR1 interview):
  1. One photograph
  2. Valid passport
  3. Visa Screen Cert - for healthcare workers - prolly N/A for you
  4. Original Birth Cert and one photocopy (I had mine certified, went to the local police station and asked -- thanks for the tip on that 1 Lyndel!)
  5. For minor childre - court order verification sole custody to immigrating parent...Im guessing N/A for you too?
  6. Original Adoption decree or evidence of name change when applicaple, original and one photocopy
  7. Original Divorce Cert and one photocopy
  8. Original Marriage Cert and one photocopy
  9. Original Police Cert and one photopcy
  10. Original Court Records if applicaple and one photocopy of each
  11. Original Military Record if applicable and one photocopy of each
  12. Evidece of financial support - I-864

It didnt state where the medical was to go, so I just put mine at the end and had no problem with it. I gave them the original, I made copies for myself and one to hand in just in case. They did keep the original though (it was that booklet you gave to the doc).
