Good on ya. Feels good hey? Fancy little thing, with all it's security measures. Can you see your signature on the back? That's the hardest to see IMO.

Okay, so my husband recieved Pkt 3 today and has been looking through it for a bit now. A few questions for those out there more experienced:

1. How much does this medical stuff cost?
2. Is it really as invasive as it sounds?
3. Any recommendations on which doc in Sydney?

Thanks!

YAYAYAY MAtt - that's so awesome! Congrats!!

1. Medical stuff is not cheap. I can't remember how much Stewart spend but it's a couple hundred...definitely over 100 - and it depends on what vaccinations he has to have and stuff. The chest xray is expensive too.
2. Not that he told me. He said it was easy and not invasive! But he could have lied to make me feel better I guess?
3. No sad.gif Only melbourne!

wolvendove,

1. if the price hasn't gone up from last year then all up it should be about $210 for the medical (exam, blood and xray)
2. not it's not. you strip to your undies. (i've had worse at my GP)
3. go to Dr. Millar...he's old but quite pleasant and his secretary is absolutly fantastic.

thanks karo.

Matt -- Congrats on your green card! That's marvelous. good.gif

And thank you SO much for the advice and info on the medical. My husband is already playing it up over the phone. Maybe he's just fishing for sympathy? smile.gif I'll pass on the info to him and we'll get this ball rolling!!!!! He had one done here in the States already and it was easy, I have no idea why he's thinking this one will be so much worse . . .

One step closer every day!!!

We have the info on what's needed, just wondering about the stuff they don't tell you on the papers. Like, which doctor is actually a nice human being rather than an overwhelmed overworked exhausted person. smile.gif As for DCF, luckily enough it doesn't matter what country you're married in, as long as you have the certified license. And in Sydney we're lucky enough to not even have residency restrictions for the USC! Yeah!

hi kath,

later in the year i will (hopefully) be going to the police academy and joining the sherriffs department, so for the time being i will do anything that pays...although with the new families connections they are organising a job for me. don't know what or with whom, i just know that i've been told to wait.

1. Lots, can't remember the exact amount and after some tiring searching for my post which went into it I give up, be prepared to spend around 300... you may come out of it with change...

2. No. At least not with my experience in Sydney, the worst was having to undress and get into one of those lovely paper gowns and to drop it only for a minute. I've read in the UK women have had to have internal exams but I've read nothing like that for Sydney.

3. I went to Dr. English and I have to say go to the other bloke. He is reccommended here and while I have nothing really bad to report about Dr English my two complaints are (1) His office is further away than Dr. Millar's to the chest xray place... I believe Dr. Millar's office is in the same building as the chest xray place and (2) Dr English's receptionist insisted on not sending out my medical results and would only give them to me the day of my interview... an early interview and a delayed train made me stress a great deal, also I had no time to photocopy the sucker. Very glad I asked the receptionist to at least copy the vaccination sheet for me.

Good luck!

we are still having very warm days here in melb ...

hi matt hows the swing going lol..

well this week i havent been in to type cos i really didnt wanna vent lol but just an update to whats been happening to me this week..i wanted to get my fingerprints done at a police station and post my application in instead of taking a day off work and going into the city...needless to say i got the run around by two police stations...after me having an email from melbourne stating the stations would be able to still do it even if they have gone electronic...one said no ink/no female on duty..other one said no forms to put prints on....then had melbourne tell me i had to have a federal one done in latrobe street...rang them they said cant do till april..so i emailed sydney they just stated that as long as it is a police check done with fingerprints that will be fine..emailed the melbourne police dept she said to ring the head team leader...i should of had the day off yesterday ..i didnt read her email till 7pm so now i gotta wait till tuesday for anything to happen lol..so there ya have it i was so disappointed and MAD...took me two days to get over it..and i still feel like requesting a free police check for all the inconvience i have had but i know i wont get it ...there is more to it but that is the short version...
venting over.... takes bow and exits the stage..lol
take care all

Hi all,
Just a question for the future about driving licence, when I get to the US. Before I went there last year I got me one of those International Drivers Licences, but Fiance (ex-cop) says I should be fine on just my Aussy Drivers Licence untill I am able to go for a US one. The international ones only last a year so I will have to get another before I leave if needed. Of course we are trying to think of all ways to save expenditures so does anyone have any tips here? We will be living in Missouri.

Kath, sorry to hear of your finger print check frustrations. I have rung my local police station (country town) about this check and they sounded like they had never even done one before for this immigration bussiness so I'm guessing I may have similar frustations.

I've been here every day, but quite. A very bad week for us of anxiety and sadness. Also fiance has been trying to get a loan organised for a house he has fallen in love with but has been having nothing but the run around with it. We did have plans of waiting to do this after I got there, as he wanted me to help in the choosing of our new home but as we have almost identical tastes in almost everything he just knew I would love it too. I think knowing how lonely he has become with me not there, and being a single Dad with a very difficult ex, hurts me more than my own pining heart. cray5ol.gif

Thanks Stella.

Hey Stella

The yanks dont care about international licenses at all really, I've been pulled up once in the city and once in the sticks and no probs. THe theory is that you should normally get a local one after 3 months inside Oz but over here you cant legally get one until you have a SSN which means several months for many of us, so no rush! Stick with your Oz one while you can, always helps with getting out of fines ! ;-) They say that (in Cali anyways) once you have a job/SSN you are required to get a Cali license within 10 days, kinda strict but who knows with Missouri.

ciao

Weelllll, I don't know if I should tell you Kath, but I got my Police Certificate yesterday, took just over two weeks...... blush.gif

It was all a pretty simple process up here, and the police station knew what I was talking about to a point, they just weren't sure about the fingerprint side of it, but after being on here I knew I had to do name and fingerprint.

Anyways, it turns out I am a good girl after all, got the all clear... whistling.gif

hey everyone...

congratulations to everyone who's had some good news the past week...

I'm still waiting for ead/ap/aos here.. keeping myself busy with volunteer work though...

just thought i'd share with ya that my belongings are on their way, and my folks back in oz.. found an incredibly cheap shipping company to do it through

www.scorpioninternational.com

i had 20 Ctns @ 330.0Kgs / 1.300M3

and it came to, $760... before they found scopion the quotes were coming back at over 4 grand... i think that was for air freight though...

theyre based in newcastle nsw, so although i may not suit everyone, just goes to show it's definitely worth looking around a lot before you hand over huge amounts of money to any one company..... i thought i did while i was at home, but i missed this gem...

take care all,

jodie.
StellaR
Interesting info on shipping, just might ask them for a quote eventually too.

Some little news. Andrew rang the USCIS today and they said our petition was in the active part now and we may hear something in 2 weeks. My spirits are lifted a little.

Well had the medical today in Brissie. The ladies there were lovely, contrary to what I had heard and braced myself for. The doctor was a really nice man, a human even!!! All in all a day in the City with just a couple of pricks to put up with, had my MMR & ADT done whilst I was there hehehehe. Should have the results by next Monday!!!

Which is a good thing, cause when I get home, checked the mailbox and GUESS WHAT!!!!???? PACKET 4!!

INTERVIEW IN SYDNEY 10TH APRIL!!!!!! Oh. My. God.
aussiewench
Yayyyyyyyyy Kaffy kicking.gif kicking.gif almost a done deal.

Great info re the shipping jodie good.gif Newcastle is less then 2 hours north of me and I do have things to ship. Do you know what the timeframe is from departure to arrival?

All the best for to all of us waiting.....hope we all get good news soon on the stages we are up to.
