Hey Kath... yes, we thought this was going to take months... we didn't believe it would be that quick. They gave us the impression that it was going to take months. My wife made a call to Rose at the Consulate, we have a direct line to her biggrin.gif and my wife spoke with her today. Rose said that my wife does have to return and post her passport as soon as she returns to Australia. My wife did leave an express envelope with them.

So what's this thing about a brown envelope? What does it contain?

Anyway, thanks again for everyone's support. And I do apologize to those who were hoping DCF would continue in some new way... The best thing now is to get into gear and get your things sent off right away.

From Google Search...

An immigrant visa is sometimes also called a "mysterious brown envelope", for that is exactly what it is. The consulate will take all documents that you sent in, the visa application form, medical examination, etc. and put it all into a brown envelope. This envelope is the visa. Remember to keep it sealed; once the seal is broken, the visa would become worthless.

There's even a nice picture of one right here.

Thanks to everyone who posted a welcome! RINGS, to answer your question, yes, I met Anna because I was dialing an office number in Australia, called the wrong one, and when she answered I was so captivated by her voice that I began flirting with her immediately, sight unseen, from the other side of the world. Lucky for me she turned out to look as good as she sounded.

And POI N J, I don't know if a 2.5 year courtship is a record on here (actually it was 2.5 years from the time we met until I proposed, but from the time we first spoke on the phone until the wedding it was 4.25 years!), but it involved at least 10 trips to Sydney on my part, and 3 trips for her to L.A. in that time.

Sorry - people are on here looking for immigration info and assistance, and here I am rambling about my relationship. Well, we've been holding out for news about the DCF, but what do you think - should I go ahead and file here Stateside before I go back to Sydney just in case, and then switch to DCF if it resumes? Thanks and cheers everyone - Mark

Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder
You better run, you better take cover

Lying in a den in Bombay

whoo hoo moonie
thats great news for ya ..aint it a fantastic feeling...

now they send your application to NVC for final background checks before getting sent over to the consulate in sydney..

yes the medical and the police check has to be organised...
if you go to the top of this page you will find embassey info..take a look there for which doctors he has to go to and also which state is he in again...different states have different procedures...only reminder i would give you is that the medical and the police check is valid for 12 months so his best bet would be to wait for a bit before doing it all...

hampster no worries to that mate...you should see me in the chatroom i met robbie in ..i am a nutter...
you could go into your control panel and delete some of your uploads... i did that the other day to make room..

vtputson...dont worry on that mate ...im sure no one else in here doesnt either...i met my hubby in 2002 and got to be here in the states in june 2006...so know what ya on about..at least you have the good fortune for your work to take you to visit so often..must be great to do that

ok ya have had enough of me posting today im outta here lol...

Hey Vutapson, welcome to the Aussie Forum, it's a really nice bunch of folks in here...Yay more aussies and ameristralians to chat to! biggrin.gif Btw, the story of how you met was really amazing!

YAY!!! CONGRATULATIONS DAVID AND STEPH!!! BOUT TIME! kicking.gif kicking.gif That is wonderful news and I am so happy for you! You must be so relieved that the waiting is over and CONGRATULATIONS ALSO TO MOONIE ON THE NOA2..you are on the way! biggrin.gif

Hi Elle, when you are photocopying your stuff for the interview photocopy a few extras of your police certificate apparently from what others are saying on VJ that it can be really handy to give to the employer when getting a job that requires a background check because that can be a slow process and they will just accept a police cert if you have it. Wishing you heaps of luck for your interview! biggrin.gif

Awesome video clip Vylex, belly laugh! Needed that!

Hampster, packet 3 and 4 were sent to me from the consulate, regular mail. Pkt 3 had Visa app forms, I-134 affidavit of support, medical instructions and the checklist that you fill out and send back to them with the stuff they request. Pkt 4 was just a small envelope with the visa appointment letter. PS, don't think i didn't notice your little comment about my chocolate habit! laughing.gif It's been noted! yes.gif laughing.gif

Vik, yeah I am headed to Colorado Springs about an 1.5hrs from Denver. Rings and Loke will also be in Colorado. Hey if you are planning to fly out around Easter, better think about getting seats held on flights as soon as you can cause I tried today and the cheapest flights were sold out..mind you I am trying to fly so that JFK is my POE to get the temp EAD stamp. Food for thought anyway. smile.gif

NYCangel, I visited Jake twice on VWP with no hassles. Just make sure yr aussie has a letter from his employer stating that he has a job here in Oz and a copy of a bank statement or bill with his home address on it. I never got asked for it but if they won't let him in at the POE, he can use those documents to establish strong ties with Australia so they know he is not wanting to stay.

Hey Kath, when i explained the term 'DAG' to Jake he was stunned! laughing.gif Now he calls me a dag or a yobbo! I just wish he would quit trying to say "G'day" it sounds so bad with an american accent trying to do australian. blink.gif

Well, I am over my hissy fit, finally. Jake applied for an apartment today, which I'm sure we will get. I am looking at arriving in the states around April 6 of course pending selling my car.

Thank you so much Kath and Hampster for getting that Land from Down Under song stuck in my head for the entire day!!!! wacko.gif

Anyway, enough dribble out of me...toodle oo! (trying to think of aussie ways to sign off is that english??)
See ya!

I haven't been through all the pages but, does anyone have an very good/easy to make recipe for that? smile.gif I don't want him to be too homesick.

HELLLLLO ALLLLLL!

Well I got my visa...sort of...lol...

Its pending a name change or passport name change - currently my birth cert has my first, middle & last name. My passport only has my first and last name. Consulate gave me a choice of go to the registar and change my name to just be first and last orrrr change my passport to include middle.

I'm in a bit of a pickle - most of my bills, credit card and license has only my first and last name. My citizenship only had my first and last name. However, most if ot all my forms submitted included my middle name. I'm a bit confused on what to do wacko.gif

Any input would be greatly appreciated good.gif

I need to pop into our "lil downunder" more often, and I'm sorry that I dont contribute as much as I used too, It's not that I dont think about all of you and your journeys, I wish you all the very best and speediest of approvals.

I AM SO DAMNED PROUD of my hubby and all he has achieved as an MP over there trying to train up and oversee the Iraqi Police.

Please keep him in your thoughts.

hey everyone

congratulations to all those who have got visas and are waiting interviews

Jodee i lost your email address

Ive had some hassles of my own i got my cal drivers licence but the dam legal department of the dmv put a hold on it. When i rang them to find out why apparently in there ins department i am still listed in my maiden name that i entered the states with and my green card is in my married name as is my drivers licence they said they cant connect the 2 names so we went back to the dmv took my passport marriage certificate and green card and after an hour and half of argueing and them ringing there legal dep i think they have finaly released it apparently the ins can take alot of time to update all there different data bases mind you i got my green card in june last year.

Kath well mate all i can say is go Carlton the mighty blues

Was talking to the hubby to be and shots was mentioned he said he does not have his shot records. Do you think he would have to take everything all over?
Kath
hi ya moonie

get him to go to his local doctor for a blood test to see what he is ammuned to...get it put on his medicare too
also tell him to keep all his receipts from the pathologist that he will be given and ask his doctor to print out a record for him ....he can also get his hepititus blood test and his aids test done this way also...

i couldnt remember when my last tetnus shot was so i got that done just in case...

if you look in this thread somewhere i did post a link to the vaccination sheet that is needed....if he hasnt already got it

Hey Kath - thanks! I think I will just have to go to the BirthDeathMarriage registry get my name changed, get drivers license changed (for photo ID to change passport) then apply for a new passport to inc my middle name. Unfortunately, I just have to wait over a week...and hopefully thats it! I was thinking of getting my citizenship name changed but that takes two weeks. I can get the name change on the spot or a day later, same with drivers license.

Moonie - ask your hubby to go to his local GP, get blood tested for those vacinnations needed TD, MMR etc to see if hes immune to the things listed for the vacinnation. If hes not, he will just need to get the vacinne for it. I already had chicken pox and it showed up on the blood test so I didnt need to do get that done, but TD (i think it was). I never had mumps but the other two I had - when I went in for the medical, they said I had to get the MMR done again. So if thats the case with your hubby, make sure he checks with the assigned physcian.

I have a definite date for leaving Australia now...18 April, flight booked, I will visit my bro in Sydney before I go so if you are still around we can catchup for coffee.

Hey folks if any of you are thinking of flying soon better check flights now cause I had a really difficult time getting a flight into JFK as my POE because of Easter and school hols. Now flying through Bangkok.

NYCangel awesome news that you were able to change your interview date! biggrin.gif
Moonie I think I already wished you congrats but if not congratulations to you and to Vylex too on the NOA1 oh and Serendipitous on your NOA2 (my god yr timeline is so quick compared to ours)...wahoo!! biggrin.gif

Hi Jodee, my fiance is military too so I know what it is like and how proud of them you feel. Jake came back from Iraq last year and now I just want to get over there and spend time with him before he has to go again. I wish your hubby a safe and speedy return. Thank you to all who serve our countries.

Well I have a question.. I am not sure how to handle my name change when i am married....I want to hyphenate my name so I have mine and Jake's surnames but I am wondering because it will be complicated whether I just use his surname in bills for the AOS proof and what happens when I apply for SSN when I get there and then get married?? Name change then?

Oh and Hampster, chocolate free today! tongue.gif I am so proud of myself but then again it is only 6.13pm still time to lash out and grab a choccy if I need! devil.gif Thank god that adelaide song didn't stay in my head! lol

See ya!

I just read something here:
http://usembassy-australia.state.gov/consular/ivfaq.html
That says that the interviews are conducted at the Sydney Consulate.
I was under the impression that my boyfriend would be able to have his interview in Melbourne.

We've just received our NOA2 and we're all excited! But i'm a little worried now that it seems like he has to interview in Sydney.

Is Sydney the only place to interview then?

This is from the FAQ issued by the consulate..

QUOTE
I live a long way from Sydney. Why do I have to go there for an interview?

The Consulate in Sydney is the only U.S. immigrant visa processing post in Australia. Likewise, although a fiancé(e) visa is a non-immigrant visa, the process is very similar to applying for an immigrant visa; therefore, fiancé(e) visa applicants must apply through the U.S. Consulate in Sydney.

Sorry for the double post but it wouldn't let me edit.

Okay, on my I-129F form, I also put in that his consulate was: Melbourne, Australia. (I didn't realize that Sydney was the only one processing these types of applications..)

Will that cause a delay in NVC sending the packet over to the consulate? Will they send it to the wrong place?
Man.. I'm so frustrated.

Kath
hi seren
yep all interviews are conducted in sydney.. Melbourne only does tourist visa's and other inquiries not immigration visa's

im sure NVC would know it has to go to Syd but just to put your mind at rest why dont you email NVC and tell them of your concerns...NVC is the State Department in the state...go to their website and find their email address..
please double check that the following email address is the correct one NVCA@state.gov

one other tip...if he gets an interview on a friday he will either have to get the passport posted down to him or stay in Syd till monday to go in and get it...

good luck

Oh Kath, those recipes...you are a gem!

Now I just spare money (that I'm not spending on Visa stuff lol..) for all the ingredients to get cooking.

Went and had my fingerprints taken for the police check Friday. The fingerprint machine's pretty cool, didn't realise they needed your whole hand tho...jeez wot else do they want a print of lol.. ;-) Next, to the doctors...

Anyhoo.. Congrats on those who are progressing forward; Elle - well done getting the Visa...yay!! smile.gif

Just waiting for a sign on ours arrived at the USCIS still......sad.gif

I didn't realize that you can get your police check and fingerprints done before the petition was sent to the consulate in Australia. I thought we had to wait for them to let us know just like the medical exam. Am I wrong? Maybe Loke can get his done soon then.. hmmmm

yes you can get the fingerprints and police check done anytime you dont have to wait for the packet for that Just go to your police station and take photo id and tell them you need them done for a visa for usa. it is valid for 12 months.
also to help with the medical if you go to your normal doctor you can get a blood test done to see what immunisations you need. i did this and i got a print out from my doctor saying that everything was up to date i only need a tetnus booster which i got from mt doc ( on medicare ) so when i went to the consulate doc i had the print outs from my gp and he used them as proof. i also made a copy of them before i went to for my own records.
