Another question. I read that it's good to show that you have establishe some joint accounts or other joint assets together. Since my guy doesn't have a SSN, I haven't been able to add him to anything at all here.

Does anybody have any suggestions for things we can get his name on (without a SSN) that would be weighty enough to prove we have started merging our resources? Thanks!

Our bank added me to my husband's account with a SSN.

Did you do a joint 2005 income tax return?

Matcoody
I bank with a credit union. Maybe that's the problem. But even if they just wanted two pieces of ID, he can't appear in person to provide it since he really can't visit me here until the visa is in hand. I'd really feel better having his name on some stuff, but it seems like a very tall order. Kinda sucks. mellow.gif

Oh, and we weren't married in 2005. Just got hitched a couple of weeks ago. Ha! If we had only known!

All my bank required, for non-interest bearing checking accounts, was a copy of the ID page of her (foreign, obviously) passport and a Signature Card.

They also issued a ATM card and a Mastercard with her name on them -- although they are joint accounts with me.

My USC hubby was able to get me listed on the rental agreement with him which I was able to take a copy of to the interview as part of my evidence of a bonafide marriage.

I have a joint account with my wife at a bank in Pakistan. I send her some money monthly from my U.S account to that account, I guess thats an easier way to establish joint assets.

Matcoody,

I bank with a credit union also. I made my accounts joint accounts with my wife while she was still in her country waiting for my petition to be approved. The CU gave me a signature card, I scanned and e-mailed it to her, she printed it out, filled it out, signed it, and mailed it back to the CU with photocopies of her ID.

She had an ITIN at the time - that was just before the IRS changed its policy to accept ITIN applications only with a tax filing.

Go to the credit union and ask to speak with one of their customer service people, not a teller. It wasn't until I sat in an office with someone that I got the right information.

We followed the same process Yodrak did. They added my husband without a problem, issued him a Master/Debit card for the regular accounts and a pin to access my line of credit.

Make sure that he is active and visible on the account before he gets here and he may be eligible to get a small personal loan upon arrival, to help him establish credit. In my case, my credit union even said that based on my account history, they'd be willing to give him an auto loan at the same low rate I qualify for. Good luck!
