they use it alot in Australia i know that lol
kittykatwoman
I don't mind if someone gives me the C word because english is not my mother tongue, i don't make the difference, it doesn't affect me.

robinklake i saw this episode and it was hilarious!!! I love this show!
KJandSH
There's a Bette Midler quote I think is so funny that goes something like this..I can't remember what it was in response to--some political stance she took crap for or her style, but she said something like...

... and then they started calling me names. Ladies, you know the name I'm talking about. It starts with a 'C' and ends with a 'T' and it's cvnt.

She's so deadpan when she said it too. Too funny!

It definitely seems to be the choice word for expressing your total dislike and loathing for a woman, so I hate it in that regard. However, how much I hate a word always depends on the context.
cheeky^Wolf
lol KJandSH.

The one time I've used it, I actually quoted a line from a movie, which made it all the more satisfying.

Me: You're a pr!ck (turns to walk away)
Him: *Silence*
Me (stops and turns back): Actually I take that back
Him: *Surprised look*
Me: You're too much of a c*** to be a pr!ck *struts away with a big grin*

In the end it's just a word. Words don't offend me. Stupid people offend me. Zealots offend me. Taxes offend me. Words do not.

I've used it for men and women equally, I would guess. Yes, I've used it to express my total dislike and loathing of the person.

*shrugs*

If people take mere words that seriously, that's their own problem, not mine.

Amazing.. Two Americans so au fait with the English's use of the word laughing.gif

One doesn't have to be born in a place to be able to speak about it with knowledge. After all, I lived there...I can say what I saw & experienced....just like you can speak with authority on wherever you live in America now.....using your logic, you wouldn't ever be able to say 'this is how it is where I live' cos you're not American.

If you're not referring to me, kindly disregard! Thx smile.gif

So I could never generalise about Americans, but you can about English? laughing.gif

OOOOOOOKKKKKK then!

Let's recap, shall we? REcap of course a summation and not verbatim...but that's in here anyways so you can clearly scroll.....

You: it seems more an everyday word in the North <------Hint, that's a generalization
Me: It absolutely isn't where I lived.....
Me: (later speaking of chavs) I don't want to speak in absolutes that it's never uttered..
You: Hahah, you said absolute twice, what a tit! Neener!
Me: No, you misunderstood...this is what I meant...
You: (very passive agressively) Oooh, an American having the unmitigated gaul to tell me about my homeland!! How very amusing...
Me: I'm only speaking of what I have experienced firsthand. I don't need to be born in a place to tell anyone what it was like from my perspective...just like YOU can speak of wherever you live in the US with knowledge as you LIVE there even tho you weren't born there.
You: *sarcastic comment about LisaD generalizing*

*bows*

I realize you don't like me cheeky, and that's fine...well I'd actually prefer there were no static between us, but it is what it is, so I'm not losing sleep over it. However, I do feel you're smarter than this little exchange we've had in this thread....your bias is taking precedence over your intelligence.

I'll say it again for the cheap seats:

Where I lived in the North, it was not an everyday word. Now the chavs in the town center MAY in fact say it, but around the places in which we spent time, around our circle of friends, it was not an everyday word.

No generalizations there, it's a simple statement of fact that has taken you multiple posts between us to comprehend. Hopefully this will be the last!!

I find it totally offensive as I do the T word I also think the F word is used far too much. There are far too many words in the english language to warrant the use of foul language. Just my thought on it

Nice summation Lisa, or should we call it backpedaling? No need to be so condescending dear, it doesn’t become you.

I’m sure you would love to think of yourself as far superior to me intellectually, sorry to disappoint you. I may not have the IQ of a genius but I’m also not going to join the “world according to Lisa” crew. In my opinion (I presume I can have one of these?) you seem to be a know-it-all, and on this subject, I think 34 years experience may just have the edge.

Now allow me to summarise our little exchange. You contradicted yourself, I pointed this out. I had no confusion, I read what I saw. Same subject, same thread. You seem to have got bent out of shape about being pulled up on it and had to regress to smarta$$ comments. That’s fine, knock yourself out with them. They just show me a total lack of your ability to admit you are incorrect.

“You: (very passive aggressively) Oooh, an American having the unmitigated gaul to tell me about my homeland!! How very amusing...”

Look up au fait – you’ll see it says informed of, acquainted with. How on earth you got passive aggressive from that I will never know. Maybe you would have liked it to be intended that way, again, sorry to disappoint you. My point was, of the few American’s in the whole thread who comments on the English’s use of the word, one admitted he looked it up on Wikipedia!

If I were to say no Americans use the C word, I’m sure you’d be at the front of the line to tell me how wrong I was. This would be your prerogative as someone who has far more experience with American people and cultures than I do.

Also FYI I am not at all patriotic about England. I do not see it as my homeland anymore. I have fallen out of love with the people and the cultures that are developing there. Therefore I am totally unbiased in any of my opinions, but in the same token I will not stand by and watch somebody contradict themselves on a subject they are misinformed about.

“Where I lived in the North, it was not an everyday word. Now the chavs in the town center MAY in fact say it, but around the places in which we spent time, around our circle of friends, it was not an everyday word.

No generalizations there, it's a simple statement of fact that has taken you multiple posts between us to comprehend. Hopefully this will be the last!!”
vs.
“I lived in the north and I can say that's absolutely not the case”

Hmm both your quotes Lisa and in my opinion, they contradict each other no matter how many times I read them. THIS was my point. YOU have dragged this out when a simple “yep, hands up, I did contradict myself” would have sufficed.

I’m sure you won’t lose sleep over this (another one of your favourite lines, according to previous run-ins you have had on VJ). This poll wasn’t started to create a Cheeky & Lisa show, but I will not ignore comments meant to belittle me or my intelligence just so you feel better about yourself.

I do not dislike you; I just question some of your posts. That’s not a crime and you are always quick to defend yourself, even if your recap’s are biased, but hey, that’s just you biggrin.gif
Happy Bunny
Go twist someone else's words, I've said what I've said and you can re-read all you want unitl you understand what I meant....'as far as the not admitting my great big contradiction' I DID say 'hahah fair enough' and tried to explain what I meant. If that's not enough for you, too bad!

This little bicker banter is ridiculous...you don't accept what I've said? OH WELL! you think I'm a know it all? OH WELL! you think I'm a gobshite? OH WELL! That's great...hurrah to you...I mean My God! a simple lil thing like me pasting my personal experience turns into you denigrating me, which I find ridiculous.

Cheeky...you're simply not that important to me. I know, I know, you're devastated tongue.gif But seriously, this is all much ado about nothing & quite frankly, I'm bored with it.

And I'm not losing any sleep over it either wink.gif

Thanks for proving my points raised Lisa biggrin.gif

Maybe we should add a category:

"acceptable when applied (to both genders) to the staff of the USCIS and the people who answer their 'help' line"

wow lots of old thread coming back. who cares if someone calls you a c.unt. just say lick it b*tch. people are never able to respond when I say that one. smile.gif AND I agree with nessa I kinda like the word
Ms. Squirrel
I am fully aware how vulgar it is and I still use it sometimes - mainly because it reminds me of my crazy Kiwi friend Annie who says it all the freaking time and still manages to make it sound funny as hell.

But I would never use the German equivalent when I speak German. But in English I somehow don't mind.

i find that happens a lot with me too...when i say curse words in italian or albanian, they just dont seem to have the same effect as when i say them in english...that is my own perception of course, im sure its not the case for a native albanian or italian speaker

I don't think this word has ever come out of my mouth. however, it ALWAYS pops in my head at one certain time.

Whenever i see Hillary Clinton.

C word?

Cock?
Alex & Rachel
I would never call anyone the c-word and I certainly don't use it in day-to-day life. But I actually rather like it as a word, and don't find it offensive. My friends and I will throw it around in conversation amongst ourselves.
charles!
c word = canadian.
PlatyPius
I use it as my absolute worst insult for someone - male or female.

And no...my previous signature using that word was NOT directed at Hillary....
