Nope, the embassy won't even know what you are talking about as your case hasn't even made it to State Department yet. Even after your paperwork makes it to the National Visa Center until the embassy has the paperwork entered into it's local database which requires them to have the paperwork onsite they still can't do anything.
The National Visa Center sent my paperwork to Kiev on Sept 8 according to them and as of today the file still isn't in their database, I will be following up with the NVC today to ensure the paperwork was sent etc.
Be patient, I doubt your case will take the 1 year 3 months that mine has so far. (and who knows how much longer after that.)
