Hi everyone-
My husband and I are looking to go to Nigeria in December, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any services they have used in purchasing tickets to there. I checked out the website that Sweetee mentioned and was looking for any other ones any body may have experience with to compare with.
Thanks helpsmilie.gif

I only know about flights to lagos

Try the direct flight info with north american airlines reservation number. they are advertising specials in nigeria since their direct flight between new york and lagos is new (1 month old). soon virgin nigeria will have a direct flight. you may have to buy the tickets from nigeria for the best deal. give the ticket agency in lagos a call for prices instead of going through the american reservations for comparison. December tickets are more expensive (anywhere out of the USA) so you should buy early!!! good luck

hi!

as i posted in another post, i recently bought a ticket directly from iberia airlines for $1,100 for a roundtrip ticket to lagos. i am coming from minneapolis, so the price might be different from different cities. when i was looking i checked out kayak, orbitz, travelocity, airgorilla, airfareplanet, etc. this was the cheapest i found. some appeared cheaper, but after they added taxes, was actually more. plus we wanted a layover in madrid...

keep in mind, december is an expensive time to go, because it is a common time to go.

good luck with finding a cheap ticket! and have a great time when you do go!

bt-store.com was good for me!

I have found that for travel from Nigeria to USA, some of these websites are not Naija-friendly. North American Airlines allows you that option of placing Lagos as departure city but some others do not even have Nigeria in the list of countries..................annoying, if you ask me...

So apart from NAA, Airfrance and KLM, what other airline permits you to place Lagos or Abuja as departure city?? Any ideas???

Ohhhh I am annoyed with the same situation mad.gif . I did find that United will allow you to search and fly out of Lagos since their partner is Luftansa. Even if you find a flight for your fiance, how do you pay for it? Most won't allow you to book it online with your credit card (at least I was told that). I really worry about sending my fiance $1,000 via western union for a ticket. I don't want him to have to walk around with $1,000 in his pocket...makes me uneasy. I would prefer to use my visa in case anything happens, I am protected.
What are some of your thoughts or experiences? I am really hoping for a deal of some sort too...hopefully less than $1,000! yes.gif

Has anyone tried going into the actual ticket counter to purchase the ticket? I use to work at the airport and they allowed this type of transaction. For a fee(of course) you could go in and buy a ticket to be picked up by the individual at thier origin. Of course they would have to show proper id etc...Since United is a partner with Lufthansa....and KLM is a partner with Delta(I think) you should be able to go to these ticket counter and purchase the ticket this way but call and speak to a human reservation agent. They had restrictions on them such as the ticket can only be refunded to the purchaser and travel dates are set in STONE. I would try and call the airlines direct and see if this can be done.

Neya! Neya!! Neya!!!......now you are in trouble! I think i should gather all on VJ planning to buy tickets for their S.O to send their checks to you cos you have just informed us that u do have the inside scoop and connections. I am sending off my check today....I knew i would strike lucky sooner or later and get some discount somehow.....what was that address again??

Thanks for the tip! Looking to buy ticket this first week of October before they skyrocket. I hope people with other tips would be kind enough to come spell out those tips.....aftermath is no good!

I ordered my husbands ticket online but opted to pay by cc since it is more secure versus sending the moneyand paying that huge Western Union Fee. they scrutinize everything though due to the 419. It worked out well even though at the last minute I had to change his flight , I actually ended up saving about $600 because they helped me find one for cheaper..and he got his frequent flyer perks. I did have to mail the paper tick to him though for the flight as it will be sent to the buyter versus the traveler. He had his flight itenerary emailed to him though as well so he could take it to the Embassy for his interview. You are only able to purchase round trip tickets from Naija though they dont allow one way for some reason. We have flown through KLM, BA and AF, I dont like BA at all and KLM and AF are partners through NWA so look on that site and you might see fares for both airlines , if not check both sites for the best rate then call the Airline and ask about that particular fare price, they were very helpful to me.

if you decide to go through a travel agent which i always do cos it's cheaper, i pay by credit card over the phone and my tickets are always e-tickets so all i have to do is print it out online and take to the airport, which your SO's could do as well in nigeria.

the prob with travel agents though is that you cant get a ticket originating in Nigeria though, and you also cant use only one half of the trip , the flight has to originate from outside Nigeria
Kanyiri
I sent a credit card with his name on it under my account number, then he went to a travel agent in Ghana. That was the easiest, and cheapest, way we found.

What website did you use to purchase the tickets? You mentioned also that you had to change his flight - did the website let you do that also?

we used nwa.com, but I paid over the phone by cc. When we rescheduled his flight I was charged charged a nominal fee, but still got a little over $600 returned to my account because the rep helped me find another really good rate. Hre flew KLM. NWA is partners with both companies and I think KLM bought Air France. My husband also gained frequent flyer miles (enough for him to fly free in the US round trip).

north american has constant fairs six months out and their websit flynaa.com now allows selection of lagos for round trip or one way to JFK. The cost of round trip is nearly the same as one way from lagos. ~$1100 with taxes.

The flight is about 10 hrs from JFK and beats any other flight (timewise) that lands in another country. landing in another country adds at least 10 hours to your already long trip. I used Jetblue as my domestic airline to get to JFK for $79 one way... i purchased 7 days out.

North American Reservations seems to fill the plane from back to front. The plane is not as full either way and you should try to change your seating to be near the front when checking in. The front is where you are likely to find a couple of joining seats empty to stretch out in. I usually sit as close to business class as possible. (business class is a ghost section!) 1st or 2nd rows behind business class are usually free. Even at the window! I think they fill these seats last to reserve for children flying alone. One down side is they kept serving food from front to back and ran out of choices of meals each time by the time they got to my seat. The food is not bad but if you can bring your own you could do better. Drinks are plenty but who likes to drink alot on a plane? I think they showed 3 new family friendly release movies (comedies or action without nudity).

yes.gif We are pretty excited about our upcoming trip with NAA in January to Lagos! (Hubby's 1st return visit! Only wished we were leaving directly from NY, oppossed to Oregon... whistling.gif That way we could save ourselves the cross coastal flight with Jetblue. In any case, like you mentioned, the ticket price was pretty good (Like $480 one-way + tax). Thanks for the heads-up regarding seating assignments! (I have fairly long legs, so you know I am always seeking out that emergency exit row! laughing.gif
The only other airlines that we noticed offered good rates were Iberia & Virgin Atlantic. However, the lay overs were insane ClockWatch2.gif
