I think you have gotten some good, straightforward advice from numerous sources and should adjust your plans, at least that's what I'd do.
getting an expensive *risk assessment* from a lawyer seems like adding another worm to the can.

Dang I just read the entire thing too.

Now, what amazes me the MOST about that is I just witnessed proof of what happens when two highly educated people (OP and fiance - med student and attorney) get ahold of a very simple topic. If everybody here had been typing on paper we would have killed a tree.

I'd rather be the lowly holder of Associate Degree with some manners that I am and trust the sound of advice of my peers than make an 'informed decision' coupled with an imperial attitude.
