Hi everyone,

I am preparing the affidavit of support, but I don't have a certificate number for my citizenship. I became a U.S. citizen when my parent became citizens. I was 15 I think. I have a U.S. passport, but there doesn't seem to be any place where I can put my passport number. On the form all it says is “If a United States citizen through parent(s) or marriage, give citizenship certificate number…” Obviously I fall under this category. Can I just put “Passport # XXXXXX?”

I looked on other posts and the pinned I-134 post, but was unable to find the answer to my question.

Thanks guys.

AstroM,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that you can obtain a Certificate of Citizenship by submitting a form N-600.

I'm not sure, but I think I recall someone a few months back who for whatever reason was being required by USCIS to produce a Certificate of Citizenship in order to get his petition processed. Interesting because the evidence satisfactory to obtain the certificate was not being considered as satisfactory for the petition.

You may get a new Certificate of Naturalization by submitting an "Application for Replacement Naturalization/Citizenship Document" (Form N-565) to USCIS. You may download a Form N-565 by clicking here or by calling the Forms Line (1 800-870-3676).

Submit this form with the fee to your local USCIS office. It may take up to 1 year for you to receive a new certificate. If you have one, you may use your passport as evidence of citizenship while you wait for a replacement certificate.

The N-600 is for the original certificate

The N-565 is for a replacement

Thanks for your help. I know that I can use my passport as proof of my citizenship (as I did for the I-129F), but for the affidavit of support I think I might just go under “if citizenship was derived in some other method, attach a statement. Either that or I will simply attach a statement saying that I do not have a certificate number along with a copy of my entire passport.”
