I have a question...I already have a job offer (after being here for less than a week!!!!) and they offered me a volunteer position before I get the permit and hire me right after I get it... Now, is there a way (after my EAD application gets approved) to get a temporary paper that says that I can work while the actual permit is getting processed and mailed to me? I know this is a long shot, but I thought I'd ask...
Thanks smile.gif

P.S. Montreal was a breeze!!! We spent a wonderful week there sightseeing and such and the interview took all of 5 minutes! The waiting (after all the paperwork was checked) was excruciating! But the actual interview was a breez (talk about an anti-climax!!!)

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Hi Lola,

Once your EAD is approved, the card itself is in the mail and in your hands within a week (at least that was our experience and majority of others experiences).

So waiting until the EAD is approved still means waiting about 2-3 months average. I would volunteer your time and let them hire you once the EAD card arrives.

Also, with a K3, you can't get a SSN until you have work authorization so not sure if the folks who want to hire you will require a SSN.

To my understanding, you are not allowed to volunteer your time doing something that you would typically be paid for - and if they were to hire you on immediately on receipt of the EAD, it's pretty clear that you would usually be paid to do! This is a grey area, and I believe that people do get into trouble "volunteering" in this way. Be careful.
